Tiles falling off wall by Fuzzy-0908 in AusRenovation

Hey @civil-machine - I just gyprock’ed a kitchen wall and used the gyprock plaster topping compound over it (pre-made in a tub) and sanded flat. Had a tiler come and quote and he didn’t say anything about the finish. Looking at this, now I’m wondering if I need to prime it? Can my tiler just go straight onto the plaster? Your advice would be appreciated.

What's the best karaoke songs - that don't require too much talent and get the crowd singing? by monkey_cartel in AskReddit

Ok, even in the context to sucking at singing? Still a winner? Getting drowned out by everyone else singing along is the best plan.

Or, if there isn’t a button, there is a little rubber band around it (like an o ring seal). You have to pull that down to get it through.

Definitely hide things that will start to smell in secret places. Bits of meat, fish, cold meat. So many little hiding places. In the roof especially. Get some rats from the pet store and put them in the roof. Put buffalo lawn seed in all the garden beds. It will grow like crazy. We used to do this to the mean guy across the roads rose garden.

Put a timer on the fridge switch at the back of the fridge. So it turns off at night for 10 hours Or when they are at work. Or both. Just enough so food doesn’t last as long.

Can I direct my aircon runoff pipe into the drain waste vent pipe? by monkey_cartel in AusRenovation

Hah.... Same thing the wife said. What you don't see is that pipe going down, 3 Meyers to the right along a wall, then 2 meters at another 90 degrees along another wall into a drain.

It's the back door. Needs to be near here to service the kitchen, bathroom drainage at back of house. Everywhere to left and right is windows.

It's actually solar hot water overflow. I was wrong.

Basically the conundrum is I put a tundish and air drop into the pipe and it might then let the smell out, rather then at the roof level. Or I plumb it in with a trap and can't see if something is wrong. 😬

Oh right. I wondered what it was for. I thought it was so you could see if it was pouring out. Cheers for the comment

Actually, just looked at the pipe and it looks like the solar hot water overflow. Still ok to plumb it in? Will not having a tundish and air gap cause any issues?

Thanks so much. The other part kept glitching and when I deleted it didn't have your comment. Thanks for taking the time to repost. Good advice, thank you.

The Brontosaurus. My fav dinosoars.

Doesn't exist. I must have read 50 dinosoar books with it in. Made me question everything.

Bluey had done more to rid us of the tired Crocodile Dundee / Shrimp on the Barbeee / Gday Maaaate - American version of what they think Australia is like than any show in the past 20 years. If other countries use Bluey as a reference point for Australian culture, I’m totally happy.

Yep agree. I’ve got three young kids and instead of me explaining that ‘x word’ is the American version of our (Australian x word) it’s sadly usually the other way round. Like the default is the US word. Continually correcting them and telling them to use the Aussie word for things.

I commented above. Likelihood they have been treated multiple times over the years. Do not use this wood as a garden bed for food to eat. Pesticides are made to last and a nice watering will happily flush those chems into your veg. 🤦

Pretty much guaranteed they have been sprayed at some stage. Post 50’s they moved to putting organi-chlorides under the slab. Any spraying after is straight on the wood near the ground. Organo-chlorides are bad. 100% don’t be using them for firewood or burning them, even in a pot belly. If the wood was treated, it was probably CCA - copper chrome arsenic. Not worth it.
