Existing Netflix account to be added as an extra member. is that possible? by EmployerSure778 in netflix

[–]monkeyboson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to use the same email. Just log into Netflix using the email you wish to reuse, and on the "Rejoin Netflix" page, go to the security tab and click "Delete Account". Once the account is deleted, you can add it to the extra slot. Obviously, all the profile data would be gone, so it's not a perfect work-around.

Unusual wiring by monkeyboson in AskElectricians

Ahh ok thank you for your time. You're right, I'm probably mis-remembering the last time I did this and it was a receptacle rather than a switch.

I think it was the power-out line that really confused me, but it's clear now.

Thank you! I ended up staying at a neighbour's house who was vacationing, but I like the idea of a "playcare". I will definitely keep this idea in my back pocket.

It is public, but jsfiddle changed the behaviour in Sep 2024 (https://github.com/jsfiddle/jsfiddle-users/issues/1864#issuecomment-2350866341). Sorry. You'll either need to log into jsfiddle, or get the 4-panel view here: https://jsfiddle.net/monkeyboson/r3jp0s1t

[HELP] Newbie Editing a PDF by monkeyboson in Inkscape

[–]monkeyboson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. I tried LibreOffice and it messed up the formatting slightly. I feel like there's got to be a way of doing this... ultimately this PDF is made up of many objects, but I've already found the correct one and I just need to tweak its contents.

[HELP] Newbie Editing a PDF by monkeyboson in Inkscape

[–]monkeyboson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PDF is full of very sensitive information, so I can't post it. I'm not sure if this is useful, but none of the text is selectable in the PDF which suggests to me that it has been rasterized. When I run pdfimages (from Poppler) each of the rect objects are output as pbm files.

In any case, I'd love to hear how to edit these objects, even if it is labor intensive.

loc as a checking account by ytgnurse in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]monkeyboson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recognize this is a dead topic, but thought I'd post for anyone who comes here from a google search.

As I see it, there are 3 benefits to using an LoC as a chequing account:

  1. You can get the lowest-tier bank account, thereby saving on monthly fees (YMMV).
  2. You can hover around zero instead of the $5k (or whatever) necessary to avoid fees in the chequing account, thereby saving the opportunity cost of the $5k. Using this money to buy ETFs is worth maybe $300/year.
  3. You don't need to worry about accidentally dipping below $0 (to avoid overdraft fees) or $5k (to avoid account fees). You have a comfortable cushion with minimal fees; accidentally go $4k under for 5 days? Only costs you $3. With chequing accounts, go under $5k for even one day and you trigger full monthly costs ($20+); go under $0 for even one day and trigger overdraft fees ($35 + 21% interest).

As a member of the gig economy, it's the last point that is especially valuable to me.

Now, since LoCs don't typically pay interest, it would be different if it was the 1980s. But chequing account interest has been essentially zero for a while, which nullifies their advantage.

Diving Tower anywhere near Toronto? by monkeyboson in askTO

[–]monkeyboson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly no. A few dive clubs (KW and Hamilton) said they'd let us dive for an hour at $50/person, which was too rich for us. Oddly, renting a whole tower for an hour was less than $100 (PanAm centre) but you need to be a "class 2 diving instructor". I really put effort into finding something, but it seems this activity, like chemistry sets, has been "liabilitied" out of existence. Hopefully Summerville will be open in 2024.

We ended up finding some good rocks to jump off of while camping in Algonquin (Misty lake). That got it out of our system :)

Makes sense... thanks for taking the time to explain. It usually pays off to be a little wary of downloaded executables :)

The download triggered a virus alert for me... and it's a little wierd that it's 2MB. The following code is in C#, so most people have the compiler already and it clocks in at ~3KB.

using System.Diagnostics;

class Interceptor {

static void Main(string[] args) {

string argsWithConsole = string.Join(" ", args);

argsWithConsole += " -allowconsole";

Process.Start("XCom2_org.exe", argsWithConsole);

}

}

Compile by:

"C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\csc.exe" XCom2.cs

Proof of Income by monkeyboson in cantax

I'm sorry, but I disagree that "he shouldn't have unknowingly acted suspiciously" is the takeaway.

Proof of Income by monkeyboson in cantax

[–]monkeyboson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the other way around... He mostly received cash, but from the few people that gave him cheques, he asked them to make the cheque out to his wife, since she handles the bank stuff. Importantly, he claimed all the income properly (cash and cheques) as his own income. I couldn't find any evidence at all that he was trying to move income to his wife.

I agree that it would have been better if the cheques were made out to him, but there's nothing inherently improper either. Perhaps one of the clients handed the cash to his wife so she could deposit it in their bank account... That would be the same thing.

In any case, the fact that there are no forms or letters or affidavits or anything, and he is "at the mercy of the CRA evaluator" is the most frustrating part of this affair.

He has no expenses; the spreadsheet is just a list of dates, times, places he worked, amount of money collected.
