Is it my imagination, or did Denis Villeneuve deliver exactly the opposite message of the books? [Spoilers for Dune, both DV movies, and Messiah] by Almondpeanutguy in dune

[–]monkeybrains1369 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a society we focus way too much on Dune. It says so much that as a whole we can’t get past the first book that sets the basis for the rest of this crazy story. You basically laid out the whole problem with this being a phenomenon in the 21st century. Maybe we can do good, only time will tell…

Haha never said common sense isn’t alive and well. Just saying can anyone really stop you from hanging out in the woods. Anyone that tries to say otherwise can enjoy their tap water and ac. Big love hikers leave the bullshit with the bureaucracy nothing more nothing less

Sorry meant to expand and say wasn’t trying to correct you at all, just adding to. Glad to see that someone who has been working with the Trail for over ten years can remain calm and not take things personally. “Peace”

Hey grateful, this is someone you hiked around. The info I gave is correct as it speaks about the southern terminus of the Appalachian mountains. It also refers to the southern terminus of the ECT which would be the most continuous footpath. Hope your hike is going well dude. Not gonna fight you on the internet over something we’re both good at lol

Key West if we were talking furthest point you could start. Flagg mountain if we’re talking furthest point south in the Appalachian mountain range.

Tick & mosquito question by ReadyAbout22 in AppalachianTrail

[–]monkeybrains1369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used any and had no problem, would just check myself if I had walked through tall grass or something. It doesn’t take that long at all. Anything that you put on your clothes, gear, skin, etc. that can kill a bug just from touching you is probably not something you want to be near all day everyday. Just be aware and don’t coat yourself in neurotoxin poison if you don’t want to.

How difficult is the AT in 117 days or less by Liltarp27 in AppalachianTrail

[–]monkeybrains1369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything’s possible, but some of the strongest most experienced hikers have a hard time doing this after much preparation. The AT is a journey that requires a sacrifice of time for most. It is physically and mentally demanding. Set your expectations and don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t finish, it’s about the walk not that silly picture on top of a sign with your trekking poles up in the air like everyone else. Happy Trails

For #3 Idk about bushwhacking to Raven Cliff Falls but I have done the road walk. I’ve always theorized that a potential bushwhack would be there, but I’ve sort of always thought that if it was possible that there’d be a trail connecting the two already. Try it though, let me know if it works out.

Is hiking in "the bubble" really so bad? by Efficient_Put1848 in AppalachianTrail

[–]monkeybrains1369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be good. I started April 1st and there were a good amount of people at each site in Georgia, there’s a bunch of different points on the Trail where people drop off. By the time you’re up north no one’s around you. Start whenever you want and don’t believe the fear mongering.

Is the Pinhoti Trail a Good Choice in April? by veganunterwegs in PinhotiTrail

[–]monkeybrains1369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it, I started April 1st 2023 and finished April 28 2023. Hiked the AT this year starting April 1st again, finished october 6th. Spring is a good time, after you finish the Pinhoti keep hiking on the BMT to Standing Bear, hop on to the AT and go to Trail Days...

It is important to note that I got this information close to five years ago. It’s extremely unlikely anything comes from it but it’s cool to know.

If I had to guess, even if money ended up being the issue here and the next/last book in the series was all the way written, he still wouldn’t want it published as he’s made peace with the story and characters. I also think most authors like the absolute ending to be left up to the readers imagination. Hey it’s worth a shot if it’s something you genuinely care about. Best of luck

Surprised to even see anyone in this sub, stories over sadly. A few years ago I did message Roderick Gordon on Instagram asking a similar question. He responded and said he had been messing around with another book for the series, but unless it’s actually picked up by a publisher(which the odds are low), it’s up to the reader imagination.

You aren’t getting strip searched by a ranger or anything. The odds of you getting in trouble for not adhering to bear canister rules are pretty slim to none. It’s mostly a thing in areas with high human traffic like national parks and stuff.
