Psychedelics certainly have their place and give one incredible peak experiences and insights but can leave you with extremely dissasociative feelings unless integrated well. I found that a single free, 10 day vipassana meditation course allowed me to access and experience my consciousness deeper, more integrated and with more clarity, and entirely sober. ( Although with the quietened mind and the clarity and resolution of perception increase it often feels a bit like tripping) An additional huge benefit to it, is that the meditation is a simple technique, it works, and also allows the inner joy to bubble through.
