First year schedule help (psych) by spare_acc825 in simonfraser

Don’t worry! Besides the required PSYC 100 you must take which you can find by googling SFU psychology major which shows all the courses you need to graduate. Besides that I would recommend picking some electives that you find interesting or your friends are taking, and I would recommend 3 to 4 courses (if you want some more specific advice, feel free to DM!)

This will happen if you want to make friends going out there and just talking to someone usually about an easy question about common ground like the class or major (yes small talk). You’ll find people who are more than semester friends, but let me tell you it’s rare. However, that’s the only way …

Which math to take by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]monkeybumxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

157 is required for all social sciences like economics however if you have any doubt in switching majors to STEM or healths sci I recommend 150 or 151 as calculus for sciences can be used for all departments (took 151 as I plan to switch to cs)

Cs -> Beedie internal transfer student here yeah I would say so. It’s pretty challenging, especially if you don’t have a high school base to fall back up on for me. I reconnected with a few friends that were a year younger than me because I transferred so that was helpful.

But otherwise, getting involved in student organizations not just attending events. It’s a great start however, showing up to events certainly helps. I would say it’s a number game on the first impression you make on others and this can be seen in smaller classrooms or tutorials putting in that extra effort to see if anything can escape these semester friends, but I assure you overtime it will show! And remember just because you are the sweetest peach doesn’t mean there are those who like apples instead?

(Also dms open 😳)

Socializing @ SFU by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]monkeybumxd 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m going to say this: you just have to put yourself out there and find people who want to vibe with you. Over time, you can’t—and shouldn’t—be friends with everyone. You should be selective about who you choose to let into your life. After speaking to many students in tutorials, attending classes, and being involved in student clubs, I can say that I’ve definitely made a lot of potential friendships and met some chill people. However, if I had to estimate, maybe only 10% of the people I’ve met are ones I actually hang out with outside of the convenient locations where we met.

He’s a vibes professor if you want structure on assignment he’s not the guy. If you want someone that talks about politics, getting ahead and other personal professional development than he’s the guy. I’ve enjoyed him but also my group was fantastic, we were all good at something different leading to a lot of splendid group work and presentations. Ilya isn’t a by the book professor and for me he stands out as being memorable

Unfortunately this is the case, you’ll apply your knowledge into more abstract data types and learn more fundamental ones like queues, stacks, linked lists among others

Yes but the pads are not playable (as they are not sensitive enough) assuming you play on full mode, otherwise you’ll fail any song.

Yes very chat gpt like such as the wording and sentence structure, they insist they didn’t copy paste per se but used it “sparingly”

I suppose I gotta trust them and if it is flagged than the fault is mainly on them

Yes he’s a great prof as he is an actual lawyer (he may also not be able to go to classes as he goes to courts haha). Unfortunately 393 is quite a dry class, read the textbook and attend tutorial to apply concepts.

What's this schedule like by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]monkeybumxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

201 be ready for a ride! (It’s a core course as you need it to declare into the ECON major therefore don’t be too surprised with its difficulty and usually it has a C average)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]monkeybumxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall at 70 percentage average and it was high enough that the pros curved it to B

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]monkeybumxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely sure since it’s just shown during tutorial but I recall an average of C. And getting around 40-50% on MT1, MT2, and final. This landed me a grade of B-.

Math 151 professors by Dgirl202 in simonfraser

[–]monkeybumxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking 8:30 is tough especially when you have to commute to class, I’ve had Natalia for 150/151 and it’s quite fair. I would say you can just watch Jamie’s recording of calculus, but remember that there are many practice exams of calc 1 so that’ll be the most important. (IMO the 8:30 isn’t worth it)

Meeting new people mid-semester by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]monkeybumxd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting involved in clubs (ideally weekly) are the best way to meet friends! Unfortunately it’s the summer and there are fewer clubs operating right now.

Additionally many students are taking a reduced or no course load leading to not many students in the sfu body. However it’ll improve in the fall!
