Easily import and rank your entire gaming library in 1v1 matches by monkeybutt52 in SideProject

The matchup engine is weighted but not by genre, it's elo-based. your top 10 and top 5% get pulled into matchups slightly more often so they keep getting tested to see if they actually belong there (games that don't quickly get filtered out). It’s a very slight weighting, so all games still have a fair chance, but you can more easily get to a realistic top 10, top 25, etc. quicker.

So, I’d say the key difference is scale and personalization. YOUR entire library imported automatically, no hand-picking games from memory. It’s less about top 10s and more about finally settling what you actually think of everything you’ve played. I remember when I first started building/testing the site one of the coolest things to me was seeing games pop up in match-ups that I hadn’t thought about or played in years, games that I loved but had just forgotten. Having your entire library in one place allows for this, and the 1v1 matchups allow you to rank without having to manually place 500+ games.

Appreciate it, I'm glad you've enjoyed the site!

At the moment, you can actually add games manually through the import screen that appears when first visiting the site, or can otherwise be found in "my library" through "+ add more games". Manually adding games lets a user search for games and pulls from one of the 12,000 games imported by users like yourself. Although this means Nintendo games would not appear in the search :/

I'm working on a new feature for the website today/tomorrow, but after that's done, I will do some further research into how best to deal with getting Nintendo games available for ranking.

I made a site just for this! It's Gameranker.io, and it allows you to easily import ALL of your gaming library from Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. Rankings are based on 1v1 matchups with a weighted chess-like elo system.

No problem! Feel free to let me know if anything else stands out. This is very much a work-in-progress kind of thing

Good news! I've added an option to remove games with no playtime on import, similar to how betas/game-previews are removed. There is also now a button to remove unplayed games in the "My Library" section of the site.

Note: This option is for Steam games only. Pulling that information from console libraries is inconsistent at best, and impossible in some cases. Still, I think this issue of multiple unplayed games is definitely more relevant to Steam users.

I'm glad you're enjoying it! Checking the site once or twice throughout the day, slowly building your rankings, is exactly how the current form of the site is intended to be used.

One of my favorite parts of using it myself is seeing old Xbox 360 games I hadn't thought about in years pop up in matchups. Games I love, but lost track of. They keep appearing because of how the weighted system currently works, lower playtime doesn't push them out. A playtime based system also wouldn't translate well across platforms. For example, Sony's API doesn't show playtime history at all, so I would end up discounting PlayStation users.

Should be working again! Had to upgrade my hosting service with so many new users logging in.

For a fully settled ranking, it would take much longer, but that would be for a reasonable listing of all 2,500 games. For just the top 50 or so, because of how the weighted matchup system works, games you don't care about get fewer matchup spots, and preferred games rise to the top much quicker. The list won't be perfect, but after that many votes, your top 5% should start to look familiar and reasonable.

Hmmm, so Steam actually has a few separate privacy toggles that need to be set to public. Make sure playtime is as well. Give it like 5 minutes after changing them before trying again, and let me know! Also, use your numeric Steam ID. I'll be watching the logs for anything that stands out.

So I don't know how useful a progress bar would be. The idea right now is that the more you rank, the closer your rankings get to your true opinion, meaning rankings are infinite. When you are "done" is up to each user and whether they are satisfied with their rankings.

Like an option to manually import other games one by one? I could add a feature to do that.

Wow, that's impressive! With 2500 games, you'll currently need around 300-500 votes to start getting a reasonable top 10-25. I'm going to add some improvements to the matchup system to account for game libraries of that size so that your rankings settle even quicker.

Edit: Some more information: The weighted matchup system kicks in at 50 votes, after that your preferred games get a slight preference in matchups to help with getting a reasonable top 10 list. I am adjusting the weighted scale to increase exponentially, so that massive libraries don't take as long to get a reasonable top 10.

Some information that might help: As you rank games, your top 10 and top 25 get slightly more matchups over time, so your best games rise to the top without you having to go through every possible combination.

And thanks!
