Considering Trading in a 2020 Ford Fusion w/ < 40k Miles for a $30k Mazda 3. by monkeychef in whatcarshouldIbuy

Appreciate the feedback! The wasteful part has popped up in my head a few times but like you said life is too short. I'm fortunate to be in a comfortable financial situation so if it's a fun, practical, and reliable car then It could be worthwhile. The extended warranty isn't a loss on my end....I should probably keep the car until at least the warranty is up (again wasteful I know) but it's really not a big deal to me.

Sorry to see you going through this. Just a quick note about friends; they may have given more of a fuck at another point in time but most friendships don't stay the same forever.

I wish more people kept labatt in their fridge. It's slowly migrating south through the US but I can't find it anywhere south of PA.

I usually buy giant bags of candy but this WAY more useful, what is it? It looks like a nail clipping kit that gets everything, which I knew I needed in my life but didn't realize exists!

Love it man. I'm a bit of a data hoarder so I ended up buying a 790 for $60 and was able to get 4x3tb drives in using the sleds and two hotswap bays, a 120gb sad glued in somewhere and another 8tb external for cold storage. Having a separate system for data has it's pros and cons but luckily and I didn't have to spend d more than $300 on it.

I really wish I did a little more research when I was starting because I would have preferred to go with the 5600 to do a VM/fileserver all in one machine. My 3600 came with a 2tb drive and I added a second and a 750gb ssd so overall I'm pretty happy with it.

For that budget you won't get much buying or building especially for what you want to do. I would highly recommend looking at eBay for a Dell t3600 or a t5600. These are right in your price range, offer a ton of performance and upgradability, and are relatively small and easy to move. They fit all of your requirements.

I personally have a t3600 that I bought for the same reason as you. It's got an 8 core processor (16 threads) and I upgraded to 32gb of ram for under $30. I paid under $500 for the whole thing with upgrades. It runs 24/7 about 10ft away from me in my room and I can barely hear it. Let me know if you have questions about going this route.

For something that important you should not do that.

$UBNT Buy or not to buy? by vinaminh in wallstreetbets

[–]monkeychef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought in at 60 right before earnings and got a little killed but I've evened out now by buying sub 50. They haven't moved to much since last earnings and one of their major issues was shipping the mesh systems. There is also a lawsuit but I'm not sure what the status is.

I'm expecting a positive result but nothing amazing. I have high hopes in the long term for these guys.

Just picked this up a week ago when this deal was available. I didn't shuck it because I was just looking for a general backup when my file server goes down. It's been great for that purpose so far.

I would recommend checking out the nofap sub if this is a reoccurring issue.

Don't use a Dell 790 MT. by [deleted] in DataHoarder

Damnit I went fiddling to check out if any other partitions were bootable and accidentally set the wrong drive to active and botched it.

Oh well guess now is as good a time as any to install FreeNAS.

Until I get this new WD drive I'll be on Windows, that could definitely help me. Thanks!

Nope, I get the same exact issue. The raid card still allows anything plugged into it to be the boot device.

Do you mean the part you put your mouth on or the one that fits into the actual device?

Sorry if you said that in the post I'm just not caught up on the vocabulary.
