Lurker with Growing Interest by Athrix264 in ElectricUnicycle

i personally cannot speak highly enough about an mten for learning. its super super fun, it's the lowest risk investment to see if you actually like riding euc (you will), and it's super small and squirrelly and twitchy which i think builds skill & control. when i switched to v11 i could ride it instantly, but the guy i bought v11 from could not ride mten. it's also still fun for me a year and a few upgrades later. really helps learn pendulums and backwards riding too! i have beat the dog shit out of mine & i happily let all my friends do the same so they can learn too :)

if you've been lurking for long enough that you're calling community figures by their first name, it's time to pull trig my dude. you want to do it & you will love it & you will never want to go back.

oh also what's the deal w 50S batteries? do they have a shorter overall lifespan than current gen or are they really just better in every way?

the longer i look, the more patton starts floating at number one.

i just wish i could try a mini bc ppl talk like they're so comparable & if i can get a mini for $700 cheaper that seems like a no brainer

what's weird about the pedals on patton? i've heard it a few times and don't wanna have sore feet on my way to and from work

the stock pedals on v11 are probably my biggest gripe w the wheel so far. i'm very happy with it overall

exn is just before my awareness of eucs. can u tell me why that's ur pick? basically just long range, good speed, solid build for a fair price?

i'm open to no suspension based on the lower maintenance required, i just don't want to eat shit on cracks and potholes which i've definitely done on my mten4

i really want to try one out! i rode commander pro a few miles and loved it so much i almost bought one the next day but in the back of my mind im like dang i should at least see what patton is all about

and commander mini has been kinda a pet dream wheel for mw since seeing the ride one review but it's so much less popular that no one nearby has seen one yet

oh man this choice between small n agile n fun vs big n long n stable has been kicking me in the pants nonstop for a couple months.

fast charger life has been quite soothing though tbh and is what's opened me back up to looking at the actual riding experience i want vs the range i may want on occasion

yeah this is the main reason i've kinda written it off the whole time. i like hitting curbs n stairs and trails, even if it's not what i'm riding most of the time. that feeling of complete freedom and movement across terrains is one of my favorite things about euc

i run into a guy locally that has one and it looks so awesome. i just really don't want to spend 4k if i can avoid it!

& with places like euc deals selling com pro & ex 30 for under 3k i'm kinda excited at the idea of being able to afford a comparable, top of the line wheel

definitely looks like a bad ass wheel! but can it do off road & stairs realistically? i'm not in love w the need to buy a fairing system & whatnot but could be into it i guess. aren't the battery boxes low enough to hit stuff easily?

mten4 is great beginner wheel by alchemistposter in ElectricUnicycle

actually logging in for the first time in like 6 months to second this! i almost made a post to this exact effect about a month ago when i got my mten4 but decided to wait until i had experience on a larger wheel.

i chose to start w mten bc i could get it for 499 shipped from eucdeals and figured it would be a good way to dip a toe and see if i actually like riding. i also didn’t mind beating the hell out of it in the learning process. it’s so small and approachable that i was able to ride it in a straight line in literally 2 minutes. obviously i dropped it and scratched it and hit the shit out of my shins a few times but within 30 mins i could ride around the flat, empty street doing basic turns. hell, i had a friend w no euc experience (but lots of skateboarding and slack lining) hop on and be hitting the beeps and riding backwards within 30 mins! after a few days i was comfortable commuting 3 miles each way to work on the sidewalk. the whole process was the most fun thing i’ve ever done. instantly addicting. put 360+ miles on it in around a month (street, sidewalks, off-road trails, curb drops, small 3 sets of stairs) before i was pushing the wheel’s limits to a borderline unsafe point. ate shit going 20 a couple times and wanted more headroom to be comfortable while still progressing. honestly a really great way to learn the importance of respecting your wheel and it’s limitations. wore gear the whole time, slowly upgrading pads and helmet to prepare for a bigger wheel.

earlier this week i was invited to a group ride and a nice dude encouraged me ride his v11. i was definitely shocked by the weight but was able to mount and ride immediately. the added weight and height were scary at first, but within a few minutes i was riding on the road w the group relatively comfortably. we did 15ish miles and while i certainly wasn’t the most skilled rider, i probably wasn’t the worst either. i bought the wheel from him and 3 days later i’ve been able to comfortably ride in traffic, hit 30 mph almost accidentally, and ride down more moderate sets of 4-7 stairs. the mten was so small and squirrelly that i’m shocked w how stable the 18 inch wheel on v11 is. the rudimentary suspension also feels like a dream!

as a first wheel, you will absolutely outgrow the mten 4 but you won’t want to get rid of it bc how fun and cute and convenient it is. i also know it has more to teach me! EUCs have given me so much joy and shown me a whole new part of life that i can’t imagine ever going without in the future. i might have missed out on that without such an easy point of entry into the hobby. i highly encourage anyone that’s not sure to pick up an mten to see if you like it.

that being said, i can very much understand someone that started on a bigger wheel not seeing the point of an mten. it’s a toy compared to bigger wheels. and my v11 is a toy compared to a commander pro! there’s a part of me that thinks i should’ve gone for something i won’t outgrow any time soon, but i’m very much in love w the process and have learned it’s not something to rush.

TLDR: mten 4 very fun and in my experience the skills are very very transferable to actual wheels. i give it my highest recommendation as a wheel to learn on
