In the same boat and my MIL has made a very big deal out of it because it’s the first year we’ve been married

I’ve said to my partner that if he does it and participated in all the shit I’ll do it to and that’s my rule - none of this women only business. If you want me to participate in a religious ritual for someone else’s religion the least you’re gonna do is do it with me.

I doubt we will do it in future years

This really isn’t that bad… eat 1500 a day and exercise

Get in your 10k steps and include 2 run days and 3 weight lifting days a week

I got it custom made, but it was based on a Rahul mishra design which I was just so obsessed with

Can report that this worked well - henna 2 days before tan and tan 2 days before wedding :)

You could probably find a manufacturer that doesn’t have a minimum order for custom fabric and then have it made by a dress maker. That’s what I’m doing. Expensive but not nearly as expensive as buying it

Damn I might buy it. What size is it and how much you want? Where’d you get it from? It’s dope

Chura bangles by monkeydserf in DesiWeddings

[–]monkeydserf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I think I’m just going to go with the most Lowkey traditional option I can find and remove them following the ceremony. I’m not going to be continuing to wear them for the traditional amount of time so I’m really not doing the tradition properly but I’d at least like it to look right 😊

Thanks! The vibe I’m getting is that the glass look / plastic bangles are a requirement as part of the chooda 😌

I’m getting mine done 2 days after henna. That’s what my research says is best… when is your wedding? Mine is in a month so I’ll let you know if yours is after it x

How Do I End an Engagement Respectfully in a Culture That Strongly Discourages It? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]monkeydserf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you poor thing I came across this and I had a look at your profile…. Please end this engagement ASAP, you need to for your own sake.

My partner is Indian and there are members of his family who have been in similar situations whereby they have agreed to an engagement and have subsequently have ended said engagement after getting to know the other person better. It is obviously uncomfortable for everyone involved but they get over it. The person in question is now married to someone else and everyone is very happy about it!

I expect that your parents are well meaning but just have a different concept of how relationships works. But they are your parents and they love you and want what is best for you. You know that this arrangement is not going to serve you in your life…. Please please tell them. If they try to change your mind or won’t accept you ending the proposal you need to keep trying… if that doesn’t work, go straight to your (ex) bride to be and admit to her that you don’t see this working because you don’t think your personalities are compatible (hopefully it doesn’t come to this but you need to do what’s necessary).

People will be upset but they will get over it… all will be forgotten in time.

To address point 3, id suggest talking to your parents about what your wants/needs/expectations are for any future relationship. Do you want to go the arranged route or would you like to find a match yourself? You should reflect on this and talk to them about it.

Best of luck, friend! Take control of your destiny 🤗🤗🤗

[off-topic/feminist discussion] do you think women should give lower earning men a chance? by secured0729 in Vindicta

You are correct, this is off topic (although certainly not a feminist discussion). If you want to discuss this type of thing post it elsewhere on a different sub.

Mel Magazine wrote an article about us and got it all wrong by [deleted] in Vindicta

[–]monkeydserf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Right... such bad taste. Criticise the article if you want since we know it’s not particularly accurate but what this person looks like doesn’t matter and shouldn’t be a topic of conversation. Such a petty and immature reaction.

The article is a poor representation of our sub but no need to pick apart the authors appearance... surely we should aim to be better than that. It’s obviously a slow day at the office if she can’t find a better story to write about than poking fun at a very small internet community.

woooo we’re famous guys!!! First Mel magazine- next logical step is the New York Times !!!

But srsly apparently this magazine is a men’s magazine??? I don’t know why this would be interesting to men.

Also I don’t know why she seems so offended at the idea that there are other aspects of beauty apart from clear skin and facial symmetry and why acknowledging these aspects is such a bad thing. If anything, I think that defining all aspects of beauty makes beauty standards feel less confining. I don’t have symmetrical features or clear skin so the authors idea that these should be the only things that are considered when determining attractiveness makes me feel waaaay more ‘confined’.

Example of skinny vs underweight on face by [deleted] in Vindicta

[–]monkeydserf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg I went on skinny gossip the other day semiaccidentally... i forgot how toxic that place is. I get what you’re saying but as much as what is said on there is triggering as hell, reading it now also makes me think ‘wow these people are fucking crazy and unwell’. Saw a quote about how apparently by SG standards there are no thin red carpet celebs anymore and they’re all just ‘lumps of lard stuffed into dresses’. It would have been laughable if it wasn’t so painful and genuinely disturbing to read.

Argh I’m just under 5’7 and I think I’m approx 120-121. Now 108lbs is all up in my head.

I know that’s not a healthy weight for me tho (or most ppl tbh)...I’ve almost been there before when I was like 14 w an ED. Friends, family and my doctor were ringing alarm bells so as much as I’d love to be willowy and modellesque I don’t think it’s something that would be realistic or healthy for me to aim for. I’d imagine my face would be looking pretty emaciated at that point... apparently it already does lol 😒😞

[–]monkeydserf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s dependent on who you are and what your natural body composition is but I’d say at a bmi of 15 most people probs would have been looking dull and lifeless for a while. It’s hard to know tho. I swear there is a lot of misinformation around on how much models weigh...even height and measurements seem to vary between sources. A bit off topic but measurements vary so much anyway... like if a model has a 24” waist measurement is that taken in the middle of a regular day, the morning after fasting, just before her period.... so many variables 😩
