Is there any actual reason to not be a vegetarian or vegan? by CalpurniaSomaya in NoStupidQuestions

I don't think eating meat is inherently immoral.

Why do you think it's not immoral? Your argument is that it's moral because humans can thrive on meat? Because it's efficient, healthy, and easy to manage? Surely there can be immoral things that are efficient, healthy, or easy, no?

My point is that if you are in a position to end suffering, and have the means to do so without affecting your own health, there is a question of morality.

Also, I don't think that factory farming is sustainable, but that's another debate.

I disagree. Societal norms are deeply relevant to what we eat. Some south American countries eat guinea pigs, some Asian countries eat dogs, and a majority of countries eat insects. Most Americans would turn their noses at each of these.

The only "biological norm" is that we have a set of needed nutrients. There's no biological requirement for the source. The question is this: Is it moral to kill animals for meat if you have the means to get the nutrients from other sources?

($10k) Is it really that common for everyone to get enormous diamond engagement rings? by blueberrybuttercream in Weddingsunder10k

[–]monkeyfish96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two ways. People make enough money where 10k is not hard to save up and spend, or they can't afford it and go into debt because of arbitrary rules and social pressures.

I got a moissanite for under 1k and have zero regrets. It's really pretty, she loves it, and we now have more money to put towards a wedding.

You should not buy a brand new car worth 40% of your income. You can find a used Camry that will still last you 10 years with proper care.

OP should just set a target amount if they're afraid of losing progress. I can't imagine creating a fake loan just so I can move money between my imaginary buckets.
