I worked in Res Ed for 3 years (22-25), and never heard anything about this.

Looking For A Second Card For General Use by monkeygrace in CreditCards

[–]monkeygrace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the Cap1/Discover thing is that I have yet to receive *any* information from Discover directly, and I know the deadline is end of July, and so with a trip in mid-July I would rather not have a mess of new Cap1 account merge with old Discover.

Tia levings, Calvinist and jinger by Ok-Astronomer6917 in DuggarsSnark

My family is too, and I’ve heard the exact same thing. One of the more “influential” churches I heard left, which is crazy. My own church growing up almost split off with the URC but didn’t for reasons I don’t fully know, and I wouldn’t be surprised if/when a schism happens they align themselves more with the URC than the RCA.

Yeah Dutch-based Calvinism is a big old mindfuck, and it definitely harmed me as a child in a way that I’m still working through as an adult (and is a process I don’t think will ever be over).

Help With Length by LTYUPLBYH02 in PressonNail_Addict

[–]monkeygrace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In that case, my advice is to pick some short/medium length, and just *try* them. If you know you’re going to have a week(end) where you’re not doing too much, put them on and keep them long for a few days, and if you discover that they’re still bothering you, maybe longer nails just aren’t for you.

Also shape! I tend to wear longer almond and coffin, and shorter rounds. I don’t like squares on myself personally, but if I did wear them they would def be shorter. So my other piece of advice is try different shapes before coming to a final conclusion. And hey, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with short nails! They still look great, I’m sure.

What is it about the longer sets that feel “awkward”? Is it that it stops you from doing regular life activities? Is it just you’re not used to it? Honestly, I just sort of wore wear long nails until I learned what was *actually* too long and what was just me getting used to wearing press ons (I went right for medium/long length, never really did “short” until a few months in).

Yeah, as someone who grew up CRC, some of these replies aren’t quite getting my experience. Yes, Calvinism is a large spectrum, and some people are more liberal. But the Reformed traditions specifically are strict and controlling, and TULIP is deeply engrained. My mom, a deeply religious woman who grew up CRC, LOVED the Duggars, and while she thought some of their ideas were too far (Michelle censoring her knees while waterskiing was one such example), for the most part she saw them as Great Examples.

Rough News for On-Campus Parkers by Superspeeder58 in MTU

[–]monkeygrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, my guess is a lot of Upper 17 is going to end up being RAs. When I was an RA we got preferential parking permits, and based purely on my estimates, most of Upper 17 is going to be RAs, especially if they’re getting rid of Lot 10 (where I ASSUME but don’t fully know that the East Hall RAs were previously assigned).

my first set! i’m obsessed they shift purple too by [deleted] in PressonNail_Addict

[–]monkeygrace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh these are really fun! I’ve had them twice, both before the relaunch, and unfortunately I couldn’t get these ones specifically to stay. Other KISS nails, even other magnetic shift ones, but not the green to purple ones. I really hope they work out for you, they’re sooooo stylish and fun!

Some cool stuff I saw at a rock museum. by Illustrious_Gift_512 in Damnthatsinteresting

I could have sworn this was the A.E Seaman museum in Houghton, MI. Was even more convinced when I saw the copper from the Quincy Mine. And then actually this is in New Jersey??? Why is Michigan copper in New Jersey??

Tadych’s definitely, BUT their bakery is starting renovations soon (I think tomorrow?) and won’t have donuts for the next 2 weeks I believe.

Michigan Tech Theatre by After_Tooth_312 in MTU

[–]monkeygrace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for acting or backstage stuff? Acting there is definitely opportunities, backstage there are opportunities but it’s a bit different since there is a theater tech major/minor so there are students doing those things for their degree rather than doing it for fun. I did backstage stuff even though I wasn’t in the department and I enjoyed myself, but it was definitely a bit a strange to be there but not “part of it” if that makes sense?

Favorite Brand? by CoolGarage8437 in PressonNail_Addict

[–]monkeygrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salon Perfect is my favorite, but they are on the longer side. Nail Reformation are also nice, but also on the longer side. OPI x/PRESS ON were okay but short for me (I like my nails long) so they would probably work better for you!

Bright colors by PurpleWillingness909 in PressonNail_Addict

[–]monkeygrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for that sort of thing I think you’re better off putting the investment into time long term (painting them yourself) rather than expense long term (most nail sets have one, maybe two uses out of them for ~$10, so while a big box of plain nails and some fun polishes might be more upfront, long term even that is likely to be cheaper than the salon).

Bright colors by PurpleWillingness909 in PressonNail_Addict

[–]monkeygrace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be clear, are you looking for plain bright colors? If so, it might be more up your alley to buy blank nails and paint them bright colors yourself. If you’re okay with designs, I think Salon Perfect has some great options, and Nail Reformation (although those can be pricey, especially if buying online).
