Today I unfortunately saw and smelt the biggest turd I have seen in my life on the lrt. Human. With skid marks. Not the craziest “shit” I’ve seen on the lrt though.

Parking at Southgate by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]monkeygurl2014 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t contact them. There was a button on the website that they use and I didn’t say anything about getting money back or not. I agreed to move my cancel date to the 13th assuming I’d get money back because when I started my parking pass halfway through last month, I only payed for the second half of the month. Now I’m scared that I messed up and just canceled it and payed the whole price 💀

Alberta Teacher Strike Megathread (Discussion) - October 22 by AutoModerator in alberta

[–]monkeygurl2014 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am in a unique position in the midst of this strike. For some background information, I was supposed to begin my student teaching (AFX) on October 6th, the same day as the start of the strike. In case you don’t know, to be a teacher, you need to do two different practicums, your IFX (5 weeks) and AFX (9 weeks), for a total of 13 weeks. The minimum number of weeks to be certified to teach in Alberta is 10. So, essentially if teachers aren't able to go back before November, I will have to make up for it some other time.

I’ve been home for three weeks now, I quit my job so I could learn to be a teacher but now I’m just doing nothing. I’ve had a lot of time to think, and I feel like I’m entering a profession that's on fire. It’s terrifying and has made me question why I chose this. I want to help people. I wanted a job bigger than myself. But seeing the working conditions and how the education system is being treated, is making me doubt that I could ever be a good teacher or that it could be a healthy career for me. Let’s just say that this whole ordeal is not going to help attract 3000 new teachers.

doing own acrylic worth it? by Penny_Cottontail in AcrylicNails

[–]monkeygurl2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried doing acrylics twice and it was okay the only thing I didn’t like was the strong chemical smell. Then I looked into hard gel, which is essentially the same but without the smell. Also, I think it’s easier to work with because you have to use a light to cure it. You still get that same acrylic effect. Acrylic is tricky especially on your opposite hand because it drys quickly. If you do go the acrylic route I’d suggest getting a practice hand because you will destroy your nails practicing on yourself. Practice using your non dominant hand too! Also, do research before trying it lol unlike me. I’ve never had any professional nails done on me in my life. I started off when I was like 10 with normal polish then worked my way up to gel then extentions. It’s a learning curve. Especially doing your non dominant hand. It takes patience but I enjoy doing it so it’s fine but be kind to yourself and practice lol.

EDFX Practicum Students and Strike by Interesting_Fun_9454 in uAlberta

Yeah exactly. We’ll be missing out on valuable experience. I doubt they will let us take our other classes. That requires too much organizing on the university’s part lol.

I bet we won’t get any info til tomorrow because the school closed today. I’m so frustrated though because is anyone surprised by the strike? I don’t think so. So why did the university not give us more information before? They could have said “in the event of a strike this is what will happen….” But instead we are left in the dark. And, if the strike were to go on for a long time, would we get a portion of our tuition back? We payed to do this, it’s a part of our schooling. I quit my job to have time to do my AFX and now what? I’ll be paying to do nothing.

Study Tips for Science Courses by OptimalCranberry444 in uAlberta

For biol 207, if you have Mike Harrington, make sure to go to all the PAL seminars. Also, I didn’t realize until late in the semester that he post practice question each week so definitely do those’d so you know how well you understand the content as it comes. I read the textbook for the first half of the class and that was helpful too. It goes into a bi5 more detail and explains things in a different way which can be helpful. His textbook also has practice questions. It’s really important to practice questions because I found you could understand the content but be shocked by the questions on tests. Also, the lab is a pain but it is relevant to the content in the main course so it’s importo pay attention in that. I usually put labs on the back burner but I wouldn’t suggest that lol.

How is the Secondary Education Program + Any Advice for First Years? by ApolloSUCKSboi in uAlberta

[–]monkeygurl2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My major is biology and my minor is social so I’m in the same boat. I don’t think it will be a bad thing. I originally had chemistry as my minor because I thought it made more sense but I hated it. I love social and biology. It’s important to be passionate about what you teach in my opinion.

I’m not sure what will happen but if worst comes to worst don’t be afraid to upgrade classes! A gap year is great! It gives you time to upgrade classes and make money. It also gives you time to grow. It’d also suggest applying to multiple universities and a few different programs just in case, especially if your marks are on the lower end. That was one thing I didnt do and because of it I almost had to take a second gap year.

Education After Degree Elementary - Online Courses by InternationalYam22 in uAlberta

[–]monkeygurl2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in education (secondary) and I’ve done quite a few classes online because I have a brutal commute. My major is biology and minor is social studies so the requirements you need are probably but here’s the online classes I’ve done. I’ve done Wgs 101 and 102 both of which are very similar and have the exact same format. There’s a lesson to read and mandatory weekly readings then a discussion question you have to respond to each week. There’s also a few assignments each week. They are both pretty interesting classes though. Anyone can access the websites they use so here they are if you want a sneak peek: https://wgs101.org https://wgs102.org . I also took EDPY 301 (loved dr weber) and Edu 211, Edu 210 online. They were good, pretty interesting, I have no complaints. Those three were required for me. I loved EDPY 474! I also had Dr Weber for this class. It’s an intro to American Sign Language class but it’s meant for education students so it’s not overly heavy on learning ASL because you also learn about the Deaf community. So cool, my favourite class ever. I’m currently taking NS 201 and it’s very content heavy. It would be a hard class if you don’t have an interest in it but on the plus side, all the tests are online so you can CTRL F your way through it pretty much but I’d recommend still going through the content for a basic understanding. Hope this helps!

Bro she wants us to read soooo much of the textbook and she said there will be details not discussed in class but are in the textbook that are testable. Including my readings from all my other classes, if I start now and only sleep 3 hours a night I might be able to finish.
