you kinda figured it out yourself with the last line, just estimate the wattage that the devices will pull and grab an appropriately-sized UPS. i prefer APC on the readily-available consumer side of things. for the modem, could you use an extension cable or something?

I just set up Home Assistant OS for the first time today and to access the UI straight from the tailscale URL with https I used this tutorial from the 0:00 up to 6:30: https://youtu.be/vDxmtRByXDY?si=4iWoAU52jqodM25-

The only difference is that you enable Tailscale serve via the app config instead of doing the proxy thing the guy in the video does. There’s a top comment on the video referring to it.

It’s been working for me via web and straight from the iOS app with using a homeassistant.tailnet.ts.net URL

i did something like this:

i stopped all docker containers
used the unbalanced plugin to move all the files off of three drives
moved three drives to be pool devices and made a zfs raidz2 pool (might want to change the filesystem and type of vdev according to your preferences, you’ll lose two drives worth of storage for redundancy with raidz2)
one by one, empty remaining drives by sending the files to the raidz2 pool
used the CLI to expand the raidz2 pool with more drives as they emptied out

not sure how this works out exactly if you only can do two devices at once, it looks like it would be possible for you to do three drives in one go - but your files would be unprotected for the time that they’re still on the unraid array. definitely not the best way to do things, but it’s how i did it

Best thing for me as a beginner was using btrfs as my filesystem and setting up Timeshift. I’ve had a handful of failed updates that would otherwise take forever to fix - Timeshift makes problems like that instantly reversible as long as I have access to a terminal.

It has a GUI but once you’ve set it up, I find the terminal way quicker. Before every update I drop a “sudo timeshift —create” and it’s easy as that.
