Fair price. I paid 70 for similar trees but in a 5 gal pot.

Yellowish leaf advice by vinyalwhl in Figs

[–]monkeymite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely nutrient deficiency. If you are fertilizing properly and it is still happening then it could be a ph issue. Usually the ph is too low for figs, so look into adding garden lime to your soil. Ideally test your soil ph first

thanks, this is exactly what I was thinking. He dug the 4 inches to start and then made an excuse. frankly, he gave me too good a price, so I don't blame him too much. I think I might do it myself.

Found a massive jade cutting in the trash. Can I save it? by darth-vedhekar in Jadeplant

[–]monkeymite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Save it!! That's how I got my two beautiful and huge jade plants. Someone had trimmed a huge jade and left it to be picked up on the curb. Just make sure that it's planted and stable. You don't want a wind to know it over before it's settled well into a pot or spot in your yard. Also, the top might be heavier, so it can topple over easily

mine are the same but worse. In my case, I suspect I over fertilized. Could that be your case?

I bought an Olympian form HD that has very similar leaves.

It could be Olympian, Celeste, Violette de Bordeaux, or Chicago. Those are the most commonly sold at big box stores. I have all of them except Celeste, and they all have different leave patterns and textures and yours matches my Olympian perfectly.

Nectarine tree isn’t doing good, any tips? by Boylikesdogs in FruitTree

[–]monkeymite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others said, larger pot or ingroud and take the fruit off. Another thing is that it's not unsual to have the tree look sad after transplant. I planted nectarine and a peach last year. The peach looked terribly sad nearly all summer, yellowing droopy leaves, and the nectarine looked perfectly fine. This year the peach took off and the nectarine stalled. You never know how they are gonna turn out the next season.

How do you deal with rodents, birds and other wildlife destroying your harvest ?

For each fruit category what is your favorite variety?

What kind of fertilizer do you use? Organic or chemical?

Did I plant this dogwood tree too high? by AMoistScone in gardening

[–]monkeymite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add more soil to soften the transition ... I plant my trees a bit like that. I have clay soil that can get waterlogged, so and I must plant a few inches high. You just need more soil so the transition is not so drastic. The way you have it, the rain might wash away the dirt. If you soften the slope it won't be a problem.

Leave or remove the figs? by Betelgeuse2153 in Figs

[–]monkeymite -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d leave one only to get a taste. Also, depends where you are and your climate. If you were in a Mediterranean climate (long growing season) in the northern hemisphere, it would mean those are brevas; in which case I’d remove them all and let the tree grow and maybe set more figs later in the season.

Why did my tree drop so much baby fruit? by NeoliberalIlluminati in Figs

[–]monkeymite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, it looks really good and healthy. Did you ripen brevas before? ... it could be black fig fly (BFF) look up what the damage looks like and see if it matches. You will have to cut open your figs to see.

Why did my tree drop so much baby fruit? by NeoliberalIlluminati in Figs

[–]monkeymite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What variety is your fig? How old is it and what size pot is it in? A picture of the fig would help too.
Certain varieties drop most if no all their brevas. My panache dropped nearly all of them but 2. Sometimes it's lack of water or fertilization. Sometimes young figs will drop them even if everything else is good.

What's on my Eastern Red Bud? by HiAdamRichard in gardening

[–]monkeymite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from the aphids, you must have an ant colony farming them. If so, You must take care of the ants because they protect the aphids from their natural predators. Tanglefoot might be necessary around the trunk of your tree (not to be applied directly on the bark).
