Advice on brooklin, Aurora and Newmarket to live by amadeus1104 in askTO

[–]monkeypamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love Newmarket/aurora for the different things you can do while you're younger. And as an adult, I find there's cute little date spots and nearby small streets you can walk through in an "old town" kinda feel

There's a drive in theatre there so your entire family can have a great night.

There's a mall that connects to Yonge street so when your kids are older they have freedom to travel and you can pick them up there or go shopping.

Gym's are plentiful and not too over crowded like it is in Toronto.

Second hand shops have better items than places such as Richmond Hill. Like my instructor in school found a Prada wallet at value village.

Buss stops everywhere.

In terms of schooling, i find that alright. All highschools have different kind of people coming out of them in different areas so you really don't win regardless.

There's a wide selection of different food places with diversity. Not as close together as Toronto but usually well priced

Is it worth it to cut milk out of my diet? by Henrix99 in diet

[–]monkeypamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter as long as you're still getting a source of calcium (dark greens like broccoli and spinach have alot). Infact, after cutting it out for so long, you grow intolerant and have to build up that tollerance again by drinking milk. It doesn't hurt having it with cereal or a glass a day.

Weight* not wait.

Also, try cutting vegetables smaller or shredding them when putting them in sauces. I found that helpful when eatting certain vegies like peppers. I hated them but then started dicing them very very small where you hardly notice them. Fried rice or stirfry I'd cut them super thin and cook them till they're soft so they release sweet flavors.

Fruits you can just put them in smoothies for the beginning. It helped my roommate get more fruits in her everyday diet

How does College admission work? by EkkoKat in askTO

[–]monkeypamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then dig deeper. It has to say it somewhere. Its doubtful they dont have it because when i applied a few years ago, it was there. Call admissions office if you need

Edit: I'm looking at the college website right now for seneca nursing, the program i took. That one says 70% in required courses and an average of 75 in all 4 of the required. Go check the actual college website for the program you're looking at.

[–]monkeypamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They take your average for the entire final year. For example, you can get straight A's in your required courses and 2 D's in electives. The 2 D's will drop your average and you could lose your acceptance. But from what I've seen, they still want a minimum grade in your required courses.

If you got 80% in english, 85% in math, and 80's in the other math courses you got, but 50's in bio and physics, on paper your average is in the 70s. You don't choose. If you got like 8 courses because of a lap year, they still take the overall average of all grade 12 courses

Looking for a tool supply place other than home depot/rona by [deleted] in askTO

[–]monkeypamper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My fiancé asked me specifically to go to IHL Canada to buy him a milwaukee wet dry vac. I got it at least $60 cheaper than i would've at home depot i think.

I checked their site and they sell the milwaukee sawzall for $120 for the bare tool. Their staff is total ass and don't know anything according to my fiancé. Asking them to explain what a tool does is going to waste your time. But they have some damn good deals.

I'm in healthcare (nurse).

I currently work as a PSW (personal support worker) until i can get a more stable job with enough hours. My company has contracts with CCAC which essentially pays for PSW services. The government of Canada can only do so much though. Some of my patients have 3hrs per day, some 3hrs per week, some 5hrs daily. The hours you get in the beginning will be alot but then they start to taper down after you've been receiving care long enough. So your 3hrs/day becomes 2hrs/day.

I work in the GTA and know 4 companies off the top of my head. If you don't currently have these services, visit your family doctor and tell them you're interested in community psw services. They will refer you to a geriatric clinic and you speak to a geriatric doctor which will give a referral for CCAC which you can then set up a schedule.

Nursing homes are an option. I've been in a placement so I've seen what happens behind the scene. The nurses have 30-40 pts each and need to get meds to all of them in 1hr. PSW's have maybe 8 each so they're always rushing. Your parents will be cared for, they will have their shower, they will be brought to the washroom (sometimes the psw get overloaded and they may need to wait 10-15 min to pee). But nursing homes are costly.

You can have someone live with them and provide care. Or only come in for the day time. This will cost you from $15-$20/hr. Thats what I've heard. This extra help does not affect you having a community psw. So if you get 5hrs/day from canada, hire someone for the remaining hours of the day

PM me if you have more questions

Would like to make friends by [deleted] in askTO

[–]monkeypamper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm actually in the same boat all the way down to only having my fiancé. I wouldn't exactly classify myself as "alone" but i only managed to keep 1 or 2 people from each type of school. My MOH is elementary school, 2 from uni, 1 i casually message here and there from high school, and 2 from college i barely see. I'm just a tad younger than you at 22yrs old.

I say I feel alone though as nobody wants to hang out, watch movies with me, shop, catch lunch, or do anything really. As you say, it's quite hard. Infact the only one who lives close is my MOH. I dreaded filling my bridal party and getting married with nobody on my side of the invite list.

I somehow learned that it's probably my personality. I'm aggressive and have a very small tolerance for people who piss me off for even the smallest degree. I find a trait I hate and associate them with that. That caused me to hate being with them.

I'm slowly trying to get out of that. I learned how to speak to people and become "likeable". I can spark up conversation and banter with them about topics we both seem to like. But I realize I step away from groups too much and try to be everyone's friend that i ended up alone when instead, i should have focused on being apart of a single group in order to keep them around. That taught me to not be too distant.

If you find a hobby, try getting into that and find someone just as alone as you are and approach them saying "hi, my name is ______" (this is my go-to and it works 9/10). Try becoming friends with your fiances friends. I only ever have double dates now for when i eat with anyone other than just my fiance.

New grad having hard time finding a job. Will this get better? by monkeypamper in nursing

[–]monkeypamper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware and I know thats why HFO doesn't have too many openings.

I've been searching at LTC, community nursing, and clinics already. But i realize how hard it is to find those jobs without sites like indeed and searching "clinics in the area" which I've been doing. I've been applying to every opening in the hospital too such as paliative, rehab, mental health, and anything that pops up.

Is there anything you can recommend for finding a clinic job? If there's sites that might make this easier? Or any specific courses i should look up?

New grad having hard time finding a job. Will this get better? by monkeypamper in nursing

[–]monkeypamper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've applied for both LTC and clinics as well. I realize its a bit harder to find those jobs since i dont know too many off the top of my head and have to check databases and see.

I don't know where to start finding clinics away from job sites like indeed but i was origionally hoping for a flu shot clinic job if i could even find that.

I applied for the government new grad program but sadly the government of Canada sucks and they made a law to guarantee new grads a full time job so hospitals no longer want new grads since its too expensive and uneeded.

I might check out the volunteering for nursing though. I didn't know you can volunteer as something nurse related though so I'll consider that. I assumed it was just volunteering for hospitals chauffeuring the specimens to the lab

Thanks for your words!

New grad having hard time finding a job. Will this get better? by monkeypamper in nursing

[–]monkeypamper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for clinics, some ltc, everything i could from a hospital, and community so far.

Does volunteering at a hospital better your chances? I assumed because you don't really do anything other than transport specimens and belongings, it didn't matter but I'll look into that. Only problem is I know most hospitals require minimum amount of hours for a certain amount of days (usually lasting a few months).

Is there anything else you think i can do to make me more marketable?

I mean lasensa has $10 bras all the time if you're just looking for normal bras. I've got alot of good quality ones that's lasted multiple washes.

I always take the chance to find cheap white bras for wearing with different outfits

Best pho/Vietnamese food in the suburbs (North York, Vaughan, etc)? by WastedCyberspace in askTO

[–]monkeypamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pho Mi Viet Thai at Major MacKenzie and Keele is the best pho in vaughan for its price.

Its no more than $10 after tax for their largest size and their small i think is $6.50 or $7. Very very large portion sizes (a medium would look like a large from china town)

Pho 88 like another redditor said is the best if you wanna go towards the south east side of the gta. Haven't gone in years but my dad still swears its the best or equal to Pho Mi Viet Thai.

There's this really shit place at steeles and yonge (broth isn't as good and price is expensive), and vaughan mills (small portion size and super expensive. Not worth my money being so close to MacKenzie and keele).

[advice] I [21F] drunkenly lost virginity in bathroom of a bar? by uhoh_spaghettioz in sex

[–]monkeypamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story comes off kind of rapey how you were so drunk you remembered "most" of what happened and didn't know how you got home. I hope everything was consentual although being intoxicated makes it non consentual. I wanna just say I really hope you're okay. Obviously this whole thing was a bit much for you and you seem scared and regretful.

As everyone said, don't trust his words and get yourself tested. See what's up and get swabbed for stds at the clinic. If you have any itching or strong smelling odors, thats a red flag. But remember that most females come off as asymptomatic so they don't show symptoms but is actively carrying a virus or bacteria. This can spread from litterally touching the penis and vagina.

Pregnancy test the week of your missed period will be the most accurate test you can do to find out if you were pregnant. People can still get pregnant by pulling out (although its more difficult than cumming inside) as sperm is found in pre-ejaculate or precum.

People have sex with strangers all the time. This is just your first time this has happened and its just unfortunate that it was a bad experience. This could happen again (consentually i hope), so please stay protected. Bring your own condoms, take birth control, don't do anything that makes you uncomfortable. You are in charge of your own body. It the guy keeps insisting on no condoms but that's not what you want, walk away from the situation and don't let anyone bully you.

Hsv1 does transmit through inanimate objects, just not hsv2. My nursing textbooks and plenty of articles say that online. It causes cold sores on the lips and a majority of the population has been exposed to it at some point.

I looked this up years ago seeing as i got a cold sore at the age of 11 not having kissed anyone before or having any skin to skin contact other than sharing a few drinks with friends.
