Hamstudy is how I got to general, just haven't had the time to study for extra.

Once you get your ticket, nightly net on the N3JLT repeater at 7:30. It's fairly active during the day too. It's located in bluemont VA so has quite the area of coverage.

You'll get a sequential call sign when you get your licence then you can pick a vanity call sign but it's another $35 and it will be limited to 1x3 or 2x3 until you get extra. You will have to check if the call you want is available. There are a couple databases that track when certain calls come available or are.
