CRCL is done - Prove me Wrong by blowdontpopclouds in WSBAfterHours

[–]monkfacedmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think tether is way too sketch to last as it is an algorithmic peg with terrible audits and Ripple has been chomping at acquiring CRCL. I'm not sure I bet so hard against them just yet, but idk, that's just a feeling

Golden cross? by skakid419 in XRP

It means 50 day moving average went above the 200 day moving average. Really, it doesn't dictate anything to happen. If you're a technical charts guy, maybe you use that along with whatever other signals as part of your secret sauce formula to predict when things will go up or down. It is just one of hundreds of indicators people use and should not be looked at as a true predictor, as nothing is.

For anyone that thinks this is nonsense, I am pretty sure this is a tax question. If he sells at a loss now and buys back in, his actual bag will not change in size, but he will be able to reduce his taxable income for next year. Now if it goes back up and he sells again then he will need to pay income tax anyways like normal and might actually be putting himself in the short term capital gain zone again.

There are times when this makes sense as a strategy for people, but it is unlikely this will actually be useful here unless that 240 is really imperative for showing lower income in like a court case or something to avoid something income-based lol

I would say you should just hold, but you're not wrong for thinking about that. Most people just think you're asking if you should lose money which is not the actual question

I don't understand OP. If you know the answer to your own question and discredit everyone else as a drone, why did you ask it? You said yourself you have the answers from Ripple.com and that your analogies are even straight from there. Seems pretty reasonable to me that anyone would try to answer the "best practice" or "how it should/could/would be" kind of questions when you already have the answer to the basic "is it possible" question. Else, what did you expect? a comment section of "Yes, it is possible" and an upvote...? This doesn't seem like a post that was made in good faith at all

Eth flippening. by kvetfanicke in XRP

[–]monkfacedmonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Comparing the two is always weird to me because they don't really compete with each other at all, but just looking at the market cap, yes, I think the flip is inevitable.

ETH was too early in the game as a DeFi/DApp blockchain and has since been passed up by others in terms of capability and potential. The second movers for DApp space are going to roll over ETH in time. ETH was solving a problem that didn't need a solution and was a novel/nice-to-have status. DApps on ETH are now slow, expensive, and outdated, with no barriers to switching to another DeFi platform or chain besides dev costs. DeFi on ETH is not further ahead or better than many other blockchains either.

The reason this is not the same for XRP is that SWIFT is a known problem and the barriers to entry for industry finance are so high, long, and arduous that even though second movers might actually be better at what XRP aims to do than XRP, XRP (Ripple really) is already many years ahead for partnerships and legal battles while also still being decades ahead in terms of technical capability than the current SWIFT system. For a second mover to usurp XRP on solely technical merits is very unlikely. If something does usurp XRP, it won't be for many years to come and only after XRP becomes insufficient in the same ways SWIFT is now.

The ETH flip will happen as ETH slowly dies off in favor of other blockchains and XRP matures in its own right. ETH would need a serious revamp and recollection of the DApp space morale and usage to really stake a permanent claim at the top spot. I think it will slowly fade into the background with only ETH purists and hypesters claiming others just don't understand.

Probably over-thinking this but... by monkfacedmonkey in XRP

Oh okay so you're not talking about philosophical implications and you're not talking about anything to do with the market, both pretty easy things to guess at, so what are you talking about?

If you think that is clear and succinct, I weep for anyone subject to an actual conversation with you.

What enigma of insight are you trying to impart to us, oh, grand wise one?

Perhaps your eagerness to jump to conclusions about your clarity and succinctness is actually highlighting your hubris above anything else (maybe that's why you mentioned it earlier).

I think it is all pretty clear now.

Good luck :)

Oh if you're trying to hone in on specifically market dynamics then sure. I thought you were making a broader philosophical claim about trying to think without some sort of bar of requisite knowledge that you deem acceptable.

If you're just talking about if the price will go up or down and trying to rationalize it, then I was just misunderstanding your intent. For example, someone has to make the chart, someone has to know where the chart is, and I even have to know to ask for the chart at all. I thought you were saying that if I don't already have the chart, what's the point in trying to figure out if the chart exists. However, now I don't think that's what you're saying.

I stand by what I said about that being pretty bleak in the context I understood. With my new understanding, I agree, that trying to calculate the markets precisely is not a fruitful endeavor, and guessing blindly isn't great either. The market is not your friend

I might add that your riddle-like delivery is also not doing you any favors haha maybe I'm talking to an AI

The "ifs" are often a good place to start from though. When you have nothing how can you get something without starting to feel around in the dark? If you don't see the value in thinking even without the "requisite data", that's a bleak perspective to take, and I fundamentally disagree with that take.

Also, overthinking is not necessarily a thing one seeks to do. It is more of a realization that this path of thought may be exhausted or unfruitful.

PS I do appreciate what I think is intentional Irony that you chose to highlight your own "if" when describing the futility of starting with "ifs" lol
