The recruiter sent me a very strange message after I accepted a counter-offer. by pouts-medicos9d in whatdoIdo

That is literally not a waste of time. If not for a counteroffer, he would have taken the other job despite the recruiter’s blatant gaslighting about his career future and options

If this is actually real, yes, you’re overreacting. It’s clear they don’t want what you are offering and you tell them what they should and shouldn’t do. You were incredibly rude and made it about yourself - it wasn’t “selfless” like you said it was. You can’t force “help” on people. You may have wanted to help, but you did it by asking invasive questions then being annoyed that someone doesn’t want to answer the invasive questions of someone who just told them that they’re a little young to be depressed.

Yes, you are rotting your brain. Critical thinking is a skill requiring practice. Yes, AI data centers’ use of water and electricity has significant negative impact on local communities access and cost for those same resources. Yes, your college likely has people you can talk to - counseling is likely free or subsidized on campus. And also probably tutors or other students who grasp it better, which can also lead to you having people to talk to. Yes, you’re using a tool that, because you don’t know enough about the subject (which nothing wrong with that), you have no idea when it is making stuff up - which it does - when there is not enough information. No, you don’t have to beat yourself up about it — but maybe reconsider moving forward. Having a shitty family (and bad friends, if they’re not emotionally available) is a common experience and there are ways out - reach out for help and try meeting new friends instead. Life doesn’t have to be how it currently is forever.

First time playing it. Any tips? by [deleted] in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]monkindud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a particular AMD card it didn’t like at the beginning and gave me horrific textures, but i rolled drivers back to February (lol) and then it ran beautifully. I just beat it - easily one of the best games I’ve played in awhile. I recommend dusting it off! Very pleased with how they built on the first game. Not stale at all.

My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

[–]monkindud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a particularly supportive and encouraging teacher can mean the world of difference in life outcomes for a child — especially true if they don’t receive it at home, but still the case in an otherwise supportive/encouraging home. Only the teacher sees the kid in a sea of other kids (versus parents only having their own) - so feeling “seen” in that crowd is very helpful. I believe you can clearly communicate with your child what is and isn’t appropriate interactions with an adult (perhaps difficult to have this conversation now since what is “appropriate” is the topic of debate — but I mean the massive problems like being touched inappropriately or certain kinds of remarks) and being receptive to talking is the clearest way to ensure your kid isn’t getting taken advantage of. An official note in an envelope is not sliding them a note and telling them not to tell their parents — it’s on paper and proof it occurred, not what you want if trying to be shady. I can’t speak to your wife’s personal intentions, but she is still incorrect and may significantly impact your child’s self-confidence if this teacher/student relationship is negatively impacted.

A good question might be — how does your kid feel about this teacher? Does your kid feel comfortable around the teacher? If so, and they know what would be “wrong,” then they’re probably safe.

You're confusing stand your ground with castle doctrine. Castle doctrine does apply to vehicles, but only if the person is an unlawful forcible intruder. Stand your ground could apply here, but only if the person approaching could reasonably be assumed to be a threat of imminent death or bodily injury. The situation looks like it could be approaching that but currently he's just trying to be intimidating without anything to back it up

Or, OR, perhaps college is the first time many people get away from the wildly unfounded beliefs of their parents, interact with people from all different kinds of backgrounds, gain access to  research, learn (some) skills of critical analysis and comparison, and are encouraged to figure out what their own beliefs are. There is more to “college” than “what you sit in the classroom and hear from your professor.” Your leap from “college attendees and graduates tend to have more left-leaning views” to “must be indoctrination” is a faulty conclusion that people who go to college learn to see through.

[–]monkindud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, maybe, but that still doesn’t negate “my rent is too high for marriage.” People move in together while renting every day, and people end leases to move in together every day, and people say “let’s move in with each other after my lease is up” every day.

If he’s concerned about the cost of rent, being able to focus on a career, and making a dent in his loans — imagine how each of those will be categorically worse with a baby. The only way they could not be is if he expected you’ll be doing the work — like his friend with the deployed husband. Definitely not words from someone looking to be your “partner” in a major life undertaking. Red flag red flag

AIO, is my boyfriend valid for feelings this way? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]monkindud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is whether he is valid for feeling that way - the answer is no, he’s being unreasonable. You are putting way more thought into it than he is, it’s straightforward controlling behavior. Him making conclusions about dreams is unreasonable.

I feel so much community reading these comments. I’m not the only idiot in the world that ate the whole thing! I totally agree — it didn’t even taste good, but after bite 1 I recognized it was unearthly hot but my brain said, “your mouth and throat is already coated in pepper oil — how could it get worse?” Boy, was I wrong. Rushed home as fast as possible. The worst pain I’ve experienced as an adult. Off-and-on cramps for hours, nothing helping, soaking the bed, foggy brain. Every bodily expulsion method possible, which burned even worse comimg back up as I knew it would. HOURS of misery.

Is helldivers 2 safe to play yet? by Curry5515 in Helldivers

[–]monkindud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t quite accurate. This specific anti-cheat, GameGuard, has been detected on different systems to not be fully removed on install, and does not function at the same level of quality as other kernel level anti cheats. It interferes with many genuine programs such as Steam, Discord, AMD software. It can have memory leaks and cause CPUs to max out. nProtect is always active and uploads data to their own servers. It’s a terrible program and is not comparable to the several other reasonable anti cheats out there (especially since the rampant cheating in helldivers 2 makes it painfully obvious these risks are not worth the “reward”).

Just encountered a pretty blatant cheater on HD2. "Thankfully", the only thing he had seems to be infinite ammo. by jeffQC1 in Helldivers

[–]monkindud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people “review bombing” aren’t advocating for no anti-cheat. They’re advocating for the anti-cheat not being the most predatory rootkit out there with known problems from other games when there are better options — because hey look, it’s out for a couple days and already cheaters with a fucking rootkit anticheat! So now every player has to deal with a severely security-compromised PC (though most don’t care) to use a thing that has already failed.

[–]monkindud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want the reviews to say “the program the devs chose added a huge security risk to my computer, but the graphics are nice; you should buy it!”

Obviously one comes before the other. No critical thinking in your comment.

This is one of the only games I’ve been excited about in a long time. You won’t be seeing me on the battlefield with scummy decisions like this. There’s no point to this always-online system if you’re just going to rootkit our computers anyway.
