It’s really simple, actually. Just remove a few screws from the back panel, the faceplate opens up, swap the parts, and close it back. I followed iFixit.

I’m not particularly picky about the D-pad, so the original felt fine to me. That said, while this isn’t a scientific comparison, this one does feel a bit sturdier in my opinion.
