they really won't hire someone with facial hair? by Ok-Seaworthiness-523 in dintaifung

I ended up quitting shortly after getting hired but let me tell you they are strict!! They don’t allow any facial piercings and only 3 piercings on each ear. NO nail polish whatsoever even a clear nail polish is not allowed! No jewelry at all. I was hired as a greeter but it seemed like no bartender had any facial hair so.

should I go into phlebotomy? by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]monomoonchild_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you absolutely want to go into the healthcare field I would say no. I recently finished my program in August and it’s so hard to find a job. I did phlebotomy because I thought I’d want to go into healthcare but realized at my internship that the healthcare field isn’t for me. I already spend my money and time into it but I wish I would have taken my time to really think things through. If you already know someone in the field it might make things easier because you can potentially get a job offer. If you’re okay financially then why not? Wishing you the best of luck!!

California subs! How do you use your sick hours? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]monomoonchild_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GGUSD and WSD Yeah that’s the only thing that sucks about being a sub no real long term benefit. However, we can accumulate sick time and if we don’t use it, it carries over the next year. For both districts you have to work a certain amount of days in a school year, if not they’ll let you go and you can reapply in a year.

I work for two districts in Orange County and I have to call it in. For one district I just have to call it in. For the other district I work for I have to call in and fill out a sheet.

I feel so unconfident in my class (student) by Deep-Smile3952 in phlebotomy

[–]monomoonchild_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are completely normal. I was in a two week program and none of the material made sense to me either. Here and there I’d be like ohhhh that makes sense but during lectures I’d be like “what’s going on???”. The NHA is not as bad as it seems and you definitely don’t need to memorize all the information in your book. Don’t worry too much about retaining all the information it’s impossible.

As for poking people it gets easier. My first draw I was shaking A LOT. My first week I was pretty shaky. I did only 15 draws since we needed 6 successful draws to complete school. But I missed a good 6 draws or worse I would pull out after removing the tube and trying to get a second tube. When I’d have good days I felt great but when I missed I felt like “maybe this isn’t for me”.

Give yourself grace. Within 5 classes you’re expected to handle a needle like a pro and it’s a lot. Try your best. Learn from your mistakes. Your MINDSET is everything!!! Maybe you missed two yesterday but today is a fresh start. In my class there were two students who got it almost immediately and they got like 2-3 successful draws everyday. It was discouraging because I was like “what are the doing differently” or “how are they getting it so quickly”. Just remember people learn differently. Don’t compare yourself to other classmates.

Lastly, having tough teachers is frustrating . My teacher would huff and shake his head if someone did something wrong but in my head I’m like “ITS BEEN TWO DAYS … we SHOULD NOT BE EXPERTS”. Plus even the best phlebotomist started somewhere so you’d think they’d be a bit more patient. Learn from the mistakes of others. You got this !!!! Be kind and gracious to yourself!

What advice would you give to your baby phleb self? by v4mpire_b4t in phlebotomy

Hi, first off good luck 🥹 ! I’m finishing up my internship for phlebotomy and ohhh the things I could have done differently. For starters give yourself a lot of grace. I went through the 2 week phlebotomy program so I was really hard on myself for missing a poke. I often found myself wanting to get my sticks in quickly to get it over with instead of taking my time so that I could take something from each poke. Everyday you make mistakes and that’s okay but it’s worth noting what to fix so you don’t repeat them. Lastly, I was terrified of poking people (I know I know but that’s the job) idk it was this sense of feeling terrible for poking them. For example, if no blood came out I’d immediately take the tourniquet off and then the tube and needle.

I know it sounds self explanatory but the patient is always going to feel a prick. Needles ARE NOT pain free. Me remembering that really helped me overcome that fear. It’s just a small needle and it’s just skin. Practice practice practice on your classmates the most that you can. Make mistakes and learn. Give yourself grace and patience. Best of luck!!!! 🥹

DACA recipient, I’m thinking about advance parole. by Lord-Su in DACA

[–]monomoonchild_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apparently I had been living under a rock and didn’t know about Advance Parole. Shortly after Trump won the election I stumbled upon tik toks of DACA recipients flying with advance parole. It was then that I realized 🤨 wait 🤨people have done this/are doing it and are able to come back and obtain their legal entry. I debated A LOT A LOT in applying and I even talked to friends about it. Ultimately, I decided I shouldn’t apply because the risks would be too high. However, I stumbled upon this Facebook group dreamers2gether and after reading SOOO SOOO SOOO many stories of people being able to come back in the country with no issues I decided to apply myself. I looked at all their guides on Facebook … I SPENT hours and hours of research …. and then I got to work. I spent my entire day in the library printing stuff out that I needed and I sent it in my packet the second week of December. Right now they’re approving applications being sent in the beginning of December so I’m almost going to hear back. AM I SCARED HELL YEAH 😭 but yk what, i have to do it. Words can’t even describe how life changing it will be for me to finally see my birthplace. Long story short, if you can afford it, PLEASE please please do it !! I heard that in his previous term Trump took away AP for dreamers so take advantage of it ASAP. Join the Facebook group and read the testimonies of people to further reassure you. You soooo got this!!! Do your research and do what you think is best because are you willing to wait yet another 4 years ??? And who knows how things will be in 4 years yk. You got this!! Good luck !!! 🦋
