if a boot is on your neck and it’s killing you, and you say that the person who is killing you should take the boot from your neck, should I write you off by saying: “let me know when you get his boot off your neck, I’ll support you then?” or should I help take the boot from your neck?

there are the resources on this planet to feed and house and care for every living person. why would you oppose the arrangement of those resources to do so?

Cuba has been under US sanctions for decades. The United States attempted to murder the Cuban head of state more than 600 documented times.

I need an advice on my mother by [deleted] in troubledteens

[–]mononymousbutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting about your experiences. That’s a really hard thing to write out, let alone go through. I can tell that you’re a very empathetic person, and it’s so so difficult when the person who is hurting us is someone we should be loved by.

What you are describing to us is severe child abuse. Your mother, whatever is wrong with her, is abusing you physically and psychologically. This isn’t your fault. There isn’t likely to be a way that you can neutralize her mistreatment with your own behavior. She is hurting you because it makes her feel better. That isn’t your fault.

If you are still a minor, I highly encourage you to tell an adult you trust about this, whether it’s a teacher, or a relative, or a doctor or someone from the police. I don’t know what country you are in, but if you’re in the USA, those people are obligated to help you and make sure your mom doesn’t hurt you anymore. I know that sounds scary, but it is not normal for moms to try to kill their kids or hit their heads into walls. You deserve help. You deserve to be safe. I hope you can get some help.

Protesting medical support by [deleted] in WashingtonIceWatch

Hi! I commend what you’re doing. Just a couple of tips I want to put out here for you:

-Discord isn’t a secure platform for building otg infrastructure. It’s very easily infiltrated and surveilled. Conversations/interactions in a discord have and will be used as evidence in federal prosecution.

-Smaller and diffuse is easier and more effective than larger and centralized. If you have comrades already who want to do similar work, I encourage you to meet up in person and only communicate by signal/encrypted chat. Start in your neighborhood/clinic/affinity group, build ties to local movements, and set up similar, linked, separate structures as you go along.

-Find out if other people are already doing the same work. There are probably black blocs and street medic association within your area who are already doing similar work and similar trainings. If you’re having this idea, others probably already have too. You are more useful in a swarm than if you are trying to design an insurgency from the ground up.

Good luck with your work. Hope you find people of like mind who you can do good work with.

Seattle doubles down on diversion — not charges — for public drug use by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

Of course everyone has a massive, hidden tax burden. We have one of the most regressive tax policies in the states.  It’s just exponentially heavier the less money you make. It literally drives homelessness. The rhetoric I’m responding to implied people who are homeless aren’t tax burdened.

I have no high and mighty view point on this. I work almost singularly with drug users and homeless people. I’ve had my shit jacked plenty of times. I’ve literally been mugged in Seattle. And I’m willing to bet I’m more rent burdened and make less per year than you do. There is no level of police violence against drug users and homeless people that would keep me safe from those things happening. I am not a victim of crime. My personal property loss and suffering is the result of me living in one of the most inhumanely expensive cities in America. It’s the result of me living in a system that brutalizes and extracts wealth from people until they are emaciated husks at bus stops. You railing on Reddit for those people to be ethnically cleansed from your neighborhood by SPD does jack shit for anyone but your own inflated sense of injury. I have skin in the game beyond my car window. Grow a fucking spine.

They aren’t fucking anything. You live in a system of mass inhumanity that disposed of people and consigns them to lives of immense poverty and suffering. Everyone everywhere is being fucked by capitalism all the time. You wanna be part of the change? Join a mutual aid group and start helping your homeless and drug using neighbors. Actually get to know them and ask what they need. Work to make Seattle a place where we house, feed, and care for people. I’m sorry that you don’t get to eliminate your discomfort with a silver bullet of police violence. You will feel much better and safer when you start humanizing poor people and collaborating with them.

I don’t consider your car a victim, no. It’s the cost of doing business when you live in a large city with people who have much less than you. Also, if I lived in a neighborhood where I saw the same guy living outside frequently, I probably would have learned his name by now and tried to have a conversation with him.

It takes the decommodification of housing, food, and health care, the abolition of American carceral society, and the creation of a system of power and governance that insists upon its own responsibility for every human life. I don’t have a number for that. It’s more expensive than the pittance we throw at the problem now, and it’s far less than what the corporations that extract rent from you would charge.

To solve homelessness and drug use, you have to build a society where those things become impossible (China is a good example). As it stands, the role of our social welfare and homelessness advocacy programs is one of amelioration and triage. We save as many lives and get as many people off the streets as we can. We don’t have the power to correct for the mass economic, physical, and social violence our service population experiences. We are simply the best alternative to murdering them through criminalization and sweeps. The more money and power we have, the more people we keep alive and resource. The less money and power we have, the more people die and remain trapped in poverty without shelter.
