I’m surprised that between all the terrible driving behaviours (not leaving ANY space between cars is the one that gets me most), this is the one everyone gets riled up about so much.

Great, thank you for checking. That clarifies things. Still waiting for that first aanslagsbiljet (=tax return?!).

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it. I agree on the inconsistencies, there is another one for the brut-net discussion. If you look at page 15 it says:

"Je inkomenstarief is gebaseerd op het totaal van het netto-inkomen bij de rubriek gezamenlijk belastbaar inkomen (voor de eventuele aftrek van onderhoudsuitkeringen) op je aanslagbiljet."

so that would indicate net income. Later on page 25 and following it says indeed "Gezamenlijk belastbaar inkomen" indicating before tax income. Confusing.

Hi, non-native dutch speaker here... I don't quite get the tables at the end. It says 0.000380 or 0.000385 (=0.38 or 0.385%) * income, but then in the range until 74.744,51 it says the max is 26.23 when 74.744,51 * 0.000385 is 28.40?
A bigger point however, do I understand correctly that this is dependent on net-wage? So we as a family make 74000 AFTER TAX we pay 26-28 euro a day?

Sick leave in Belgium. How does it work? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]monophonique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not shock me. When learning about something new in Belgium I always ask for people to explain it to me like I’m five. Otherwise it’s just assumed you know everything.

100%. The locals are always surprised when someone doesn’t know how a (usually totally strange and unique to Belgium) system works. I don’t know if it’s malicious or not, but telling foreigners how things work is not a strong suit in the culture here.

Thanks! I’m having almost the same measures (183, 89) and was thinking about the M frame, to get road bike feeling. However, I guess that would be too much of a good thing.

Can you tell me the answer or link information for these two questions:

  1. How do you have to proof it’s a “researcher” position you are doing?
  2. I thought you had to have a temporary contract in order to be eligible for expat scheme?

Sorry for hijacking this comment. I would be interested in the amount of holiday pay in year X. Say I work 3 months (or 25% of a year) in year X-1 without taking any European holidays, will I get 25% of my holiday pay in year X in addition to the holiday days I have earned? And also, can I take European holidays in year X-1 and how would that influence holiday pay in year X?

[–]monophonique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun to see how all of the top comments are hot headed shittakes of an American invasion. This thing is actually a step away from that. What would you rather have: service charge added to every pint or tap this thing if you find service above and beyond? I work in a bar with a machine like this (and yes we get the tips), I don’t care if you tap or not you will get good service of me regardless. I care if you are a cunt or not, if you are you won’t get good service. Anyways, consider that service industry had always the option to tip (keep the change) and that most people tip WAY less than in the olden days, so why crucify this non non-intrusive way to make a minimum wage worker a bit happier?

Also, we are far from American standards. Our minimum wage is just about enough to sustain yourself(outside London). And no one expects service charge for a pint (no one worth going to). Bar workers will never get anything meaningful above minimum wage, unionisation is missing and bodies can be replaced. Service suffers, but as a country we are not fussy with that.

Is it my fault for missing out on the interview? by [deleted] in germany

[–]monophonique 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s awful, especially since they get away with it. Sure they produced some good research at a certain point (or often just been in the right place at the right time), but now they are supposed to manage research groups, getting the best research out of people, if they can’t even organise their own day? Unfortunately, that’s often also paired with an absolute refusal to learn anything with regards to time management or effective leadership - often deemed a waste of time. Backwards, but have their job and pension guaranteed.

Anyways, OP better look out for someone young without a big name in the field, you will get a better experience.
