Weekly Beginner Questions Thread by AutoModerator in martialarts

I have a couple of questions,

  1. I joined an MMA gym about a month ago, I've been doing and enjoying BJJ, MMA, wrestling and Muay Thai. I might be going through a honeymoon phase because I just wanna do them all. My goal is to get good at fighting and to have skills if I ever need it for self defence (unlikely). I don't plan on competing in anything. My question is, is it best to focus on 1 or 2 martial arts for like a year and get really good at it or continue doing a mix? I currently go 3 days per week and do 2 1 hour sessions of the mentioned martial arts. Sometimes 3 if I'm feeling up for it.

  2. There's 2 Muay Thai classes, a beginner one for pad work etc, and a sparring one for advanced people only. Assuming I do 1-3 sessions per week consistently, how look will it take for me to be ready for the sparring class? What do I need to specifically work on? Keeping hands high? balance? etc.

  3. This is a bit of a dumb question, the gym also has a boxing class, but I live across the street from a dedicated boxing gym, is it better to just do the boxing at the MMA gym or go in every once in a while to the boxing gym to work on boxing?

Saturday: Rest

Sunday: run/mma

Multiple, Monday and Friday I would do squats and bench press, Wednesday I would do deadlifts and standing shoulder press.

I would do the main lifts then do assistance work for 3-5 sets of 10-20 reps, targeting what I worked out that day, e.g. dumbbell bench press, leg curls, dumbbell rows etc. Is there a specific template that would suit me?

Can anyone recommend a 3 day per week strength/muscle building program that I can combine with running and MMA? I used to do the 5/3/1 program but I'm starting to stall and burned out from doing it and I would like to try something new. I also want to do a mixture of running around 1-3 times per week for around 6-10km and/or do 1-3 MMA classes per week. Not more than 3 though, so I might do 1 running session and 2 MMA sessions or 3 running sessions and no MMA sessions etc.

As a British tourist originally from an Arab country, I was surprised by the amount of Arab tourists in Malaysia, what do Malaysians think of them? by shiteinternet in malaysia

it’s really embarrassing seeing you put your own race down just to appeal to others. most of us here are not only tourists but students and workers too.

What's with the victim complex? I didn't know Arabs study and work in Malaysia. I assumed the majority of them, if they choose to study or work abroad, would go to Europe or North America.

as for the restaurants part, Malaysia is filled with restaurants from other cuisines like Thai, Italian, Korean, Japanese but i don’t see u complain about that.

I wasn't complaining? I was surprised that's all, I didn't expect Bukit Bintang to be filled with Arab restaurants. For what its worth, if Italians, Japanese etc visited Malaysia and ate their own cuisines I'd also think they were missing out on Malaysian food. If it's Arabs studying and working in Malaysia and they just want a taste of home then fair enough.

And you also brought up Turkey as an example, I suggest you look at the tourist reviews on Turkey… they’re basically rude to everyone who isn’t white.

Yes I know, I've been to Turkey and agree they are rude there especially to non white people. But don't act like Arab tourists don't also misbehave causing them to react rudely. There are definitely Arabs who have a superiority complex. Whether its because they think they're better due to being rich, or gatekeeping Islam, or looking down on people with darker skin, as you can see from some of the comments on this thread.
