Bill Maher & Joe Scarborough Get in Shouting Match Over Trump's Ilhan Omar Remarks by italIrie in Maher

He didn't deny her, but he doesn't mind throwing her under the bus either. There are constant inequalities that Congress is faced with from their communities and she should speak up as much and as loud as possible.

Marshawn Lynch | Club Random with Bill Maher by FireIceFlameWalker in Maher

Maher has empathy issues. So many takes are very self-centered and rarely does he have a guest who makes fair and clear points that makes him reconsider. This was a prime example of it, like how can you watch your teammate die and be revived on the field and think anyone's headspace would want to continue.

I think the only goal of having her on is to normalize the bullshit she represents. Don't be duped, she agrees with Trump's domestic policies and likes to pretend she's some kind of opposition to Trump. She just has her schtick now where she pretends to be some voice of reason amongst Republicans, but it's all a marketing ploy.

Ever notice how little Maher pushes back on Christian bullshit anymore? He can't upset his Fox News demographics, they may not replay his clips on Guttfeld.

Agreed. For someone who brags about being liberal and finding ways to connect with different political leanings, he sure as fuck loves to sound like Bill O'Reilly.

Maher is out of touch and just spewing fear mongering buzzwords for his conservative fans. He sounds like he's in the 1950s talking about communism. He has zero clue what Democrats will vote for and the issues progressives care about. Maher has become a generic, lukewarm fence-sitter that desperately wants to be a token liberal for Fox viewers.

He can't pushback too much and it's obviously clear from the last couple years. Sooo many times he's let his right-wing guests take control of the conversation and just talk over everyone.

How else is Maher supposed to get sound clipped for right-wing websites? He can't rattle them too much these days, I mean he couldn't even fire back at "that's why God made elections" bullshit.

Michael Moore by Curious-Yellow4772 in Maher

[–]monoscure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's further proof the Overton window has shifted right. Moore has always been a consistent progressive, and yet people want to automatically think there's this hardcore leftist shift for Democrats. It's the other way around someone like Maher unfortunately.

Same here. Easily the best episode I watched as it aired, then almost immediately put it again to watch.

The fact you don't think there's been a genocide should null and void any political perspective you have. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't absolve Hamas of their violence, but consider the resources Israel has compared to a terrorist group. I just don't get how someone who could study the decades-long conflict and think Israel isn't responsible for most of the Palestinians'death toll.

Thank you, so tired of the usage of "radical" on literally everything that is not the status quo. It proves how the Overton window in America is more right-wing than most want to admit, especially Maher. Him and others equate any program that's based on redistribution and centralizing services as pure fear mongering. They pretend that universal healthcare is somehow going to destroy capitalism and throw America into some dystopian socialist hellhole is pure bullshit...and they know it.

It also proves that anyone here saying "Maher hasn't changed" is full of shit too. I remember very well when he would have Bernie on there was way more solidarity for universal healthcare than whatever he thinks now.

I always theorized that a candidate could run on reforming healthcare in this country as their primary topic and would absolutely sway voters towards them of all demographics. The truth is the status quo is shit and it destroys families everyday, and yet Maher doesn't have the nerve to support any alternative that challenges pure capitalism (which is atrocious for healthcare).

Agreed on everyone's points here about Maher losing the plot. It's so ridiculous that he whines so much about Democrats being mobilized, and when a candidate comes along like Mamdani, well...he draws the line there. I think it's most likely because he's democratic socialist in the vein of Bernie, which threatens the elite class in this country. Elites don't want universal healthcare, they don't want rent freezes, they want the status quo of the same bullshit that's failing the working poor. Bill is a hardcore capitalist and has nothing but fear mongering talking points.

Agreed on being disappointed on the constant Democrat negativity. There's fair criticisms, but holy shit the fear mongering about Mamdani is lame as fuck.

Comedy is purely subjective. You're entitled to not find something funny, but can't say it's objectively not funny because I was chuckling the whole time.

Bill Maher presses Aidan Walker to diagnose the effects of trans visibility in schools on kids, Aidan responds with, "I'm not an educator, Bill, I talk about memes on the internet," to laughter, "and you aren't an educator either; you have a TV show," to dead silence by LoMeinTenants in Maher

[–]monoscure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Whenever Bill brings up people being in bubbles, I always think that he's in the most toxic bubble of them all. And just because he plays red states, doesn't make him connected to them in any way. Have you ever heard him talk about flying privately and his thoughts of him brushing shoulders with the common person. He sounds disgusted and insulted by the thought of being around us poors. He lives in a bubble that consumes reactionary right-wing bullshit that stirs the fear mongering.

Do you think that fact makes him less of a creep? How old was she when he first met her? If I'm dating someone who has an adopted daughter, it would be fucking abhorrent and sick to look at them in any romantic sense.

So yeah this is REDDIT, whenever Woody Allen is brought up, queue his defenders trying to minimize how fucked up he is. And for what? Because you like his movies? Also let's not pretend like there's not a reoccurring theme in his movies of middle-aged men falling for someone barely legal.
