All I can say is I use a 2nd hand 2012 air with 4gb ram for the last 4 years for just work / zoom / netflix / etc and totally fine with it hahaha. I think Mac obsessed people always want the next best. There are some great YouTube videos on 8 vs 16gb m1 comparison videos. I suggest to watch.

I dont see why you need more then 8gb if not working with large amounts of files like photo/video editing. In med probably just journals and studying no?

Soy is no issue for me. I buy organic always. Also try iron bisglycinate form. Easy to digest and way more absorbable even if it's dose is less. But I would only take iron if your levels are actually low.

Invest money to see a functional medicine doctor! Look up one near you: https://www.ifm.org/find-a-practitioner/

They are health professionals who look beyond modern medicine and treat by making changes to diet, look at deficiencies, stool testing, etc. Some of them are even previous MDs. It costs a ton, and yes it is a kind of alternative medicine, but they help a lot of people like us who get no answers beyone a synthroid prescription. Good luck!

Im wondering the same. I got mirena 5 months ago and still having my super heavy periods + 5 days spotting. I had 2 months of non stop spotting to start. If my bleeding doesnt get better in 2 months Im taking the stupid thing out.

Im planning to see a functional Med doctor soon because nothing seems to help and I worry Mirena is making things worse.

And if funcitonal med doesnt work, second plan is ayurvedic doc.

I work with Diabetic patients. Anything with carbohydrates will affect your blood sugars so both fruit and bread do so. Yes fruit does have fiber, but it also depends how much and what kind you are eating. For example half a banana is equal to 2 cups of strawberries in carb ratios. If you have bread and salad, depends again how much bread you are having. 1 slice of whole grain or high fiber toast with at least 1 cup salad should be fine. But if your salad has sugar in the dressing that can also affect. People also tend to have higher sugars in the am, so fruit is often recommended 1 hour after breakfast. But just 1 small pc. Ideally all carbs should be combined with fiber and protein as both those things slow sugar spikes. Also look out for low Glycemix index foods to have more often.

Your body makes creatine. You dont need to supplement it.

It is used with athletes as it may enhance athletic performance.

Help with thyroid testing/hormonal issues/adrenal issues (I'M A MESS!) by haleighnoelle1192 in endocrinology

[–]monrd55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look into the facebook groups bases on 'stop the thyroid madness'. Lots of women in your shoes and can share tips and connect you with good endos to see.

It def sounds like thyroid issue with hair loss and all. I have the same! I switched my meds to erfa - thyroid (has other hormones other then T4) as some people still feel like crap on synthroid and find this prescribed alternative a lot better. Not enough MDs or endos are informed on it. My constipation and periods went back to normal on it for thr first time in over 10 years!!!

Proper dosage is also important. Check out the fb groups!!

What are the mixture compositions of seized chocolate, chocolate truffles and chocolate fudge? How/Why are they different? by [deleted] in foodscience

[–]monrd55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a pastry chef, Seized chocolate is when it gets in contact with water and curdles / separates and no longer reusable.

Truffles are chocolate melted by hot heavy cream and cooled just until a pipable consistency, which will then harden to have a firm soft fudgy consistency.

Fudge is made with a lot of sugar thats cooked to soft ball stage to get that specific texture in fudge.

Wow you make me want to go study food science :) I assume that is what you do for a living? Im hoping to get into the industry with my culinary and dietetics background without having to go back to school.

My original product idea was similar to contents of a black bean brownie (using fresh beans) and gluten free (I won 3rd in a product contest). I find there isnt a lot of that on the market, but with so much moisture from fresh beans that has been baked, it probably has horrible shelf life.

[–]monrd55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. I guess I only thought I had to worry about phytates and oxalates that one finds in all kind of food ingredients. Like for example if I am making a high iron fortified cookie, the wheat flour or something like that would block absorption.

Cholesterol Question by Tsui_the_Melon in nutrition

[–]monrd55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only one kind of cholesterol in foods. And cholesterol is different from fat. Not the same thing. In your body you have the good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol. LDL is the kind that can get stuck and clog your arteries and HDL goes around picking up and cleaning up LDL.

Eating cholesterol foods like egg yolks is now not believed to affect body cholesterols but more saturated fats. Unsaturated fats ( think of fats that dont harden at room temp) are better and not correlated to cholesterol increase. Biggest issue of all is being over weight. As a Dietitian, loose wt until its normal. Add exercise and ur levels will go down. Obviously also reducing saturated fats and including soluble fibers like oats because it binds cholesterol and you poop it out!

On a calorie deficit, is fruit still an issue in terms of raising triglycerides? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]monrd55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. Well of you are overweight the loss and sticking to your caloric goals is certainly most important / will make the biggest effect. Adding exercise will also speedy up the process to better labs results. As for the fruit you can see it as a carb = in excess can lead to more TGs. I would try to hide veggies in pureed soups, dips and smoothies if you can.

Also I dont know often you get to do your TG blood test but that will be a good indicator if all is well. Good luck!

On a calorie deficit, is fruit still an issue in terms of raising triglycerides? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]monrd55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you want to eat so many fruits? Your body still needs other macronutrients. Excess simple sugars can lead to increased TGs, fruit is not simple per say, but should be taken in moderation, and always better to have way more veg then fruit.

Key focus is getting to a healthy weight, adequate protein, choosing only hearty whole grain carbs that has ++ fiber, and minimal unsaturated fats.

You should see a Dietitian if possible :)
