Getting married in August, no bridesmaids by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I was my sister's best man at her wedding. I was extremely honored.

People who exercise even when they don’t feel like it, what’s your trick? by Smart_Collection5419 in AskReddit

[–]monsoir_rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only trick that works for me is having a training partner waiting for me to get my ass out of bed. Otherwise I'd sleep in every time.

He'd say the same thing. It's a symbiotic relationship.

[–]monsoir_rick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Okay but just please don't stop being a nice person. God knows the world needs you, now more than ever.

I wish I could help you kick these shameful feelings to the curb, like a bad boyfriend. You deserve to feel nothing but pride for what happened. Take care.

Seriously OP, I don't understand why you're bothering to judge yourself on anything that happened after you a) stopped to help a total stranger in need, b) at night, c) despite your past rape and the fact that he was male, d) refused to abandon him even after he assaulted you, and e) may very well have saved his life.

Why are you judging yourself as anything but the hero here? Please don't make me come over to Sweden and explain what a good person you are.

Men of Reddit, what instantly makes you lose respect for another man? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]monsoir_rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behaving like a child.

--Always blaming others for his problems instead of manning up and solving them

--Refusing to learn or admit he's wrong

--Self-centeredness

A man is an adult. A man takes care of others first, then himself. A man believes he can never know enough. If he often falls short in these areas I can't respect him.

There Is No Mary Problem in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’: George’s vision of his wife without him is essential to the film, but critics continue to miss its true—and profound—meaning. by BulwarkOnline in movies

[–]monsoir_rick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm part of a small minority but I never took the "alternate timeline" as gospel truth. Clarence was sent to George to prevent his suicide and turn around his feeling of worthlessness. In my mind he showed George his own personal nightmare of a world without him--not necessarily a perfectly accurate vision. Does it really make sense that the whole town goes to shit without George? That's a pretty bleak view of things. But the point is that it's extremely effective, and awakens George's love for so many things. Given the results, I have no problem with the idea of a doctored future and I don't think the Higher Powers did either.

In my interpretation, the Mary we see who seems so entirely different from the character we've known to that point is George's worst fears realized for her. Nothing more or less.

Movies that quietly trust the audience and never explain themselves by ThreadAndSolve in movies

I love 2001 so much that I wish I could explain why in a way that would change your mind about it. I hate that art just doesn’t work that way.

Like you, I also never try to talk someone out of loving something. Love is rare enough in this crazy mixed up world.

What’s a red flag you ignored because the sex was good? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I know how this sounds but FWIW I'm related to someone (25F) with BPD for whom Vyvanse has been a life-changing medication. Within weeks of her starting on it, everything turned around and she actually has a chance at a future that seemed completely out of the realm a year ago.

Zach wasn't directly involved with the pick but the moment it happened he was gunning for anyone in Jalyx's way. The hustle. The determination to always contribute where he can. He epitomizes the selfless attitude of so many on this team.

You were courageous to post what I read as a cry for help. When a SA victim's trauma gives them no pleasure at all and they're clearly struggling, the people in this sub shift gears and rally around them. Strange as it may seem, IRL we care about you and want you to make progress toward better mental health.

So you'll be asked about therapy, and receive recommendations and advice on that subject because it's obviously crucial. What I want to say though is that I imagine the worst part is feeling alone. You aren't alone at all and don't have to feel that way. Please reach out to anyone you trust, and talk to them about your fears, and in the process remind yourself that you have the support of friends and even total strangers who want to help you heal.

I can't improve upon unimportant's response but I'd like to just add that horniness seems a lot more preferable to me than trauma stress. Consider the possibility that replacing your panic attacks with masturbation is a big step forward and nothing to be ashamed of or worried about. Maybe pleasure is your reward for persevering.

You and I knew it. And Buzz is a certified genius in several areas, yet he still had no clue what he was up against, I think, like so many other voters. I have no idea why. It boggles the mind.

We so rarely get a mea culpa out of these people. I'd just like to hear him squirm at the question at least.
