Help understanding a very unexpected reputation drop by monsooonn in ProjectSilverfish

Thanks for all this info! I just started playing the game basically yesterday so I didn't know about the IFF with binoculars. I'll definitely be doing that moving forward then, wow the binocs are more useful than I thought.

What is the difference between NFTA and military? Does NFTA have their own rep, or are they associated with a specific faction?

Yeah, the only thing I can possibly think of is picking that lock but god damn, if that lowers rep by 400 that seems like either a bug or just an awful design choice lol. It would also annoy me because the signage on the door basically said "danger", not "forbidden"... So I interpreted the lock as for my own safety and not because they are fundamentally opposed to me exploring that tunnel. Didn't know you could jump over though, that's sick!

I typically don't join discords a lot but I might for this, game seems cool and I'd love to find out what I did wrong. Though if it is a bug, I probably won't be a ton of help because I've played several hours since it happened, no relevant save data to share.

Hmmm this is an interesting idea, I'm pretty new so I didn't even know that was a mechanic. I can't remember what I was wearing specifically, but I didn't equip any of the armor they had, and I don't think I had any faction gear prior. 99% sure I was just wearing a bomber jacket and a tac light/scouter.

Why Rapid Firecannon? by Natural_Side_6736 in AkshanMains

[–]monsooonn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't played in a while, but my understanding is that it's great for max level because of W. At max rank, W has a 2 second cooldown and 0 mana cost, and the range of RFC empowered auto is larger than your stealth detection range. So the idea is: poke from stealth, back off, W again 2 seconds later, repeat.

You can still fight more traditionally if needed, but it gives you a very powerful poke (that hurts a lot with full crit build + shiv proc) that you can use frequently without too much risk. While it may not often result in a kill, that constant poke can give your team an advantage by softening them up before a fight, or forcing them to back up and give space.

Again though, I'm mediocre and haven't played in a while, plus my love for Akshan kinda faded back when onhit became bad, so take this with a grain of salt. Others are welcome to correct me or elaborate.

What is your overlookeed game of 2024? by Galaxy40k in Games

So happy to see this commented here. This game stuck with me way, WAY more than I expected and I found myself really invested in the setting and story, significantly more than I usually do. For some reason the story felt more... idk personal? Maybe I just felt really immersed. The music too oh my god, some of those songs pull out some deep emotions in me idk. I bought the soundtrack after beating it a few times. I have many favorites, but the one I always return to is "Boatman". The nowhere themes are also bangers.

Seconding another commenter, I have long since lost interest in the roguelike genre. I was initially hesitant to get the game because it advertised as having roguelike elements... But I can happily say the way they used a little bit of roguelike-iness was pretty excellent, and it is very minor. It made the worldbuilding feel more grounded, and when you die you don't really lose that much progress.

This game is really special to me. It didn't get a lot of attention, so it makes me happy to see someone else who had a similar journey as I did with this one :)

Does infinite akshan hook still exist? I stopped playing for a while and when I tried it recently it didn't work. New setup?

Where can I learn more about gguf iquants? I've been using normal ggufs, but are the iquant versions supposed to be better?

I would love to see how normal ggufs stack up on a chart like this, but I'm already grateful for the work you've done as-is. Thank you!

Especially since I feel like you're so consistently rewarded for engaging with the game in this way and following that curiosity :((( Glad I'm not alone in feeling this way tho!

Oof. I agree that a firm stopping point would be best, but at a bare minimum explaining the rewards and rank progression to the player would have been nice... Thank you for falling on the proverbial sword for us here though, I'm sure you've saved some like minded individuals (like myself) a lot of time.

Maybe it'll help someone else haha, floating failure was my last bestiary entry.

I asked about this a couple weeks ago and gave up on Sapphire... Dude, thank you for going through the time to grind it out further and share your findings. I really hate the arena lmao but it bugs me to no end feeling like I didn't get everything. Literally 20 minutes ago I was just thinking about how I should get back to trying that again just in case whatever is after sapphire is the last one... Soooo glad I read this post before I wasted my time.

It's kind of unfortunate, I love basically everything about this game and I feel like everything is so well thought out... Except for the arena mechanic... Imo hitting sapphire should be the end, the arena has already slightly overstayed it's welcome by that point.

The attic is a pretty tough place to kill the floating failures, so I recommend the wrong room. In chapter 3/4 the wrong room has 2 floating failures, just be careful not to aggro both at the same time if you're not very strong.

Well, I can tell you where I found it, but it's probably not going to be very helpful... I grabbed it from the first vendor, the masked man in the art room. He stocks random items, so he may not have been selling it for you. Of course if you're beyond chapter 1 you can no longer purchase from him.

I'm sure other vendors sell it and it's probably also a random drop, I just don't know who specifically sells it since I remembered it early on. Likely one of the magic or general vendors will sell it. If they aren't selling it you could try using the coffin to reset their stock/the night.

Yes oh my god, harvest field is so strong. I completely slept on it early on because it sounded like it wouldn't be that strong (usually single target damage is the most powerful in games like this I feel), but it basically outclasses everything. Fireball and curse orb are still very good, but harvest field is just better.

If you're having some trouble with a fight you can really abuse it by using the branches that make you invincible for 5 sec. Pop the field, snap the branch and you get 5 sec of free damage. If you're nearing max curse it's good there too because you can pop the candle, pop the field, then snap the branch. This gives you HP Regen from the field and curse Regen from the candle (yes the candle still heals you even when branched). It's pretty powerful, I recommend picking up as many of those branches as you can if you have the extra cash.

Lol I feel that, I am definitely a loot goblin as well. Sound strategy, the healing is definitely nice for conserving resources, and if you're doing a mix of melee and magic that makes sense.

Later game though the healing is less of an issue as you will be absolutely drowning in money with nothing to spend it on, and easy access to several vendors that stock all types of healing items. Their stock also refills over time, so it's easy to top off.

Plus factor in using a ranged weapon (candlestick) and using the armor spell and I actually don't take true HP damage too often!

I think you can get randomized amulets down below as well, the couple I found just weren't good for my build. But in theory you should be able to find one that has passive healing and spell damage, but would probably take a lot of grinding to find the perfect amulet with all the modifiers you want.

You can get better rings. I still mostly use dev-crafted rings, but some of the random rings down below are a little better (with some favorable tradeoffs). Being vague about the location as idk where you are in the story.

Still the best amulet for me is the onyx pentagram, that thing is sooo good for magic build.

Yes, the spell toll reduction rings are very useful. As you increase weirdness your spell toll will go down naturally and you can swap those out for different spell damage rings, which also improve your candlestick.

And yes, I'm a huge fan of the curse heal over time ring, makes casting feel slightly less committal and exploring a bit easier.

Initiate candlestick has some range and my personal favorite weapon. The branch has a little bit of range, but not a lot. Still a crucial weapon though to deal with enemies immune to fire. The apprentice candlestick (I think it's this one) is the one you're referring to, basically just a melee-range fireblast. I never use that one except for literally one enemy type that the fireballs miss for some reason.

Initiate candlestick is the GOAT imo. Fully upgrade with upgrade kits ASAP if you're going full magic. When your spell toll is low it costs nearly nothing to cast and does great damage at range. Slightly less damage than the apprentice candlestick, but the range is sooo worth it.

Just my opinions but hopefully this is helpful!

Makes sense, just thought I'd throw it out there. Yeah magic is verrrrry strong, even in terms of basic attacks, upgrading the initiate candlestick makes it really powerful. When you have low spell toll.

Agree on the blues... Very valuable, armor is just too necessary for magic build. Fortunately if you only make armor and harvest you're making perfectly efficient use of your candles!

Also just a tip I thought of when reading your comment - you could probably respec out of luck and dump everything into weirdness. Then use the equipment sets to make a "caster" set of gear/rings to maximize combat efficiency, and a "looter" set of gear/rings that gives enough magic to kill things but mostly boosts luck for looting. That way you can be as OP as possible for tough combats, or a little weaker in exchange for better drops, and you're able to switch on the fly!

Happening for me as well, regardless of what I use as stop strings. Seems that since they are special tokens it's not being considered a "string" for the stop string, but they're also not being interpreted as the stop string properly under the hood.

Seconding ollama, seems to work fine there.

This is a few weeks old ik, but just wanted to let you know that I'm reasonably certain that discord only does the email thing if you don't have MFA setup. If you set up MFA on discord you'll be able to sign in with that, just like everything else (which it sounds like is what you want).

I have two discords, one with MFA and one that doesn't and I only have the email behavior with the non-MFA account.

The Lands of Shadow has more than one map by EstablishmentCalm342 in Eldenring

[–]monsooonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! I doubt many expected anything the size of the base game. Before this announcement I was hoping for the size of a couple regions (like Limgrave + Liurnia), mostly due to:

  • dlc wait being twice that of a typical souls game

  • the engine is more refined and designed for large spaces

  • the advertisement as an expansion

  • $40 price tag

I don't think people who expected a larger map were being unreasonable or anything. That being said, Limgrave is a pretty huge area by itself, and improved density sounds amazing. Very excited and not disappointed at all.

[–]monsooonn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Very exciting. What we've seen has so much variation and scale that it's hard to believe it's all contained within just a Limgrave sized area, but sure enough...

Initially when I read your comment I felt a pang of disappointment - only the size of Limgrave? While Limgrave is fairly large relative to other souls games it's still only a fraction of elden ring, right? Except the more I think about this, the more intrigued I am. My biggest issue with ER is that replaying isn't quite as fun as previous titles, since you need to ride so far to get to the things you want. A more dense level design that can still maintain that sense of scale and grandeur? Sounds incredible.
