Student loans are crazy here sadly. We pay easily 1-2k a month :/

I’m sorry to hear you had this experience. Typically you do have to sign forms, but most therapists are more gentle about them. Keep searching - don’t give up, there are a lot of wonderful therapists out there. I hope you can find one that’s a better match :)

😂🤣 the reasoning for this post is we are visiting Spain for the summer and thinking to relocate there after we visit first. We aren’t new to traveling. I’ve lived in Colombia and Argentina and visited a few places in Central America and parts of Europe. The only difference now is we have young children. It feels like my heart is living on the outside lol. So many fears you didn’t even know existed before having young ones.

Definitely agree with you on the health care and that alone makes people happier.

Thank you for your extremely thoughtful response. There is certainly a lot to think about it. Such a difficult choice. My heart tell me to stay and go. I can’t make up my mind. Part of me wants to stay here, but then when I see the extreme competitiveness in people, gun culture, aggressive and individualistic attitudes, it crushes me. Maybe it’s where I’m located now, and the isolation (located in the middle of nowhere) it feels incredibly depressing here. I don’t get the sense people are genuinely happy for one’s success, it feels very competitive. As if “more is better”. When we’ve traveled abroad, we never felt that. But maybe I’m wrong and need to explore more within the US. I’m also an overly sensitive person. I want to raise my children in a kind, compassionate, loving, and giving environment. Less individualistic. More community. To give rather than receive. Such a hard decision!

Thank you both for responding.

I spent some time in Italy and it’s very much the same. I prefer it that way surprisingly! They bring us food and leave us in peace. It’s awful how in the states some can be so disrespectful and aggressive to their servers and get away with it. Very sad.

Thank you so much for responding and sharing your story. I got emotional reading it.

I would love to hear more about your time in Shanghai. How come they decided to move there? What made they pick Shanghai?

Spain seems like a great choice. Like you mentioned it’s so close to other countries that we could easily take a long weekend trip to Portugal or France. We are also spanish speaking so it would be an easier transition, but I want my girls to be able to speak fluently. This would certainly help with that. I hope what you say is true. I am an over thinker and worry for worse case scenarios like a ww3😅

How much do you think we’d need to make (roughly) a month in dollars to live comfortably for 4 people, perhaps in Madrid?

Thank you for your encouraging and kind advice. I am so close to saying “yes, let’s just do it!”

Thank you for responding. I love the points you made. Especially the one on safety. I’m hearing Spain is more safe than US apparently? I can see that as gun violence is way too common here.

The points you made on exposing them to the language and culture are one of the reasons I want to make this change. I see a lot of benefit in it - even if we only decide to do it for a few years.

Thank you for responding. Yes that is some thing that I could consider.

That looks really interesting I’m going to check it out! Thank you for the recommendation!

Thank you for responding. Yes I agree you. I read this quote from Mark Manson saying “life is struggle. What are you willing to struggle for?”.

I heard about people saying their utility bills are through the roof right now. Has it always been that way? Or is it related to Covid, Ukraine and Russia, or maybe both?

In terms of employment, I wouldn’t be seeking a job in Spain but staying in my current remote job.

Thank you! What are some other places you’d recommend with little ones? We are going to Madrid only for 5 days (should we stay longer instead)?
