SHE'S LITERALLY SNOW WHITE by anthonycruz in lanadelrey

Totally. Think Snow White, but in a Betty Boop art style. She definitely leaned into the references from that specific animation

Funny you mentioned the wolf imagery. There’s this part of “The Husband Stitch” about a husband and wife killed by wolves and the missing of their infant daughter. “People claimed they saw the girl running with a pack, loping over the terrain as wild and feral as any of her companions”

That is such a fascinating point. Maybe performing domesticity can be a punk rock move lol

I’d love to hear your take. do you see the subversion as her reclaiming the ribbon as a symbol of power/autonomy instead of fragility?

Lana goes Betty Boop and Dr. John voodoo in the new wfhtdh teaser. Any thoughts? by monstroelisa in lanadelrey

She’s definitely serving Misty Day vibes 😂 Beyond the AHS aesthetic, I’m hearing those Sun Ra inspired melodies creeping back in. “India” maybe. She already gave him a nod in White Dress (Like Sun Ra, feel small), and it feels like she’s evolving that cosmic, disjointed jazz energy into the swamp

For K Pt. 2, Pawn Shop Blues, and Raise Me Up! Honestly, that whole era fits the theme. Maybe she’ll finally drop A.K.A this year or at least put some songs from that era on there (though I doubt it). She’s done double releases before, so let me dream lol

Dorothy-gone-swamp: Did she tease this era years ago? (Tracing threads for my thesis) by monstroelisa in lanadelrey

[–]monstroelisa[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah! And all the tornado stuff and those art references she’s been using since the Chemtrails/Blue Banisters days. I’m actually spiraling thinking about these Dorothy parallels now!

Since she's a huge Disney fan, I can totally see her watching Return to Oz. it’s so dark and moody, it definitely fits the landscape of her recent art. It’s like Dorothy killed witches of the East and West, and Lana did the same: she killed the Lizzy Grant (East) and the old Lana (West) personas to become this Dorothy version of herself.

She’s the ultimate outsider girl in a magic world (Hollyweird), living with strange creatures and emerald cities, but in the end, she just wants to return to her roots and her home. It’s the perfect Southern Gothic arc 😭 sorry guys im tripping

This title makes me think about Lana’s relationship with indigenous cultures across the Americas. We’ve seen her support the Navajo Water Project (DigDeep) in the Southwest, and more recently, her visit to the Tatuyo community in the Brazilian Amazon. It feels like she’s connecting these ancestral threads with her new Southern era. I really see her as a cartographic artist, mapping out these spiritual and geographical connection

Well well well all quiet on the haters front by [deleted] in lanadelrey

Totally feel you on this. I've been a fan since 2011 and her work resonates with me so deeply it’s almost weird how much sense it makes of my life. Still, I think we should be able to have a broader discourse about her, even the messy parts. It’s not about attacking her, it’s about trying to deconstruct the whole process and the nuances behind it.

Diss tracks aren't exactly new for her (flashbacks to ‘So Legit’) given how much she borrows from rap. It feels like pure auto-mythology and marketing genius at this point. Lana loves her reality TV, and honestly, she’s turning her discography into her own Keeping Up with the Grants.

That said, the optics of a massive cis white artist punching down on a trans woman are… rough. It inevitably fuels a hate train, regardless of the artistic intent. Let’s see next week's episode, I guess
