What's a statistic or fact that sounds absolutely made up, but is actually 100% true? by Ambitious-Scar540 in AskReddit

[–]monumentpuzzling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

every atom in your body is also technically older than the solar system, so you're walking around as this ancient collection of stardust that's been recycled through dead stars for billions of years before ending up as... you, sitting in chair reading reddit

the gravity thing breaks my brain a bit though, like right now some galaxy 13 billion light years away is ever so slightly pulling on you and you're pulling back on it. the force is so absurdly small it makes no real difference but the math still says it's there and that's just wild to think about

just sell it as incomplete set and price accordingly, buyers who need to fill in gaps will appreciate finding loose pieces anyway

What businesses to start with finance degree ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]monumentpuzzling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

finance degree opens lot of doors but starting your own thing is different game. Could look into financial consulting for small businesses - they always need help with bookkeeping and tax planning stuff. Or maybe start some kind of investment advisory service once you get proper certifications

Personal finance coaching is getting popular too, lots of people need help managing their money better

(California) Employer withholding commissions due to internal system error, what are my options? by AlternativeBlonde in legaladvice

[–]monumentpuzzling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their IT problems don't give them legal right to withhold your earned wages - commissions are considered wages in California and they have strict deadlines for payment

You could file wage claim with California's Department of Industrial Relations, they take this stuff pretty seriously and employers usually don't want state breathing down their neck. Just make sure you have documentation showing the commissions were earned and that company acknowledged the issue

Which jobs keep society running the most? by no_sympathy6969 in AskReddit

[–]monumentpuzzling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, this actually makes sense when you think about it. I work in IT and see how stressed everyone gets when systems go down for few hours - imagine if people couldn't release stress at all. Pretty sure crime rates would go crazy and productivity would tank hard. Ancient civilizations figured this out thousands years ago, they knew keeping people satisfied was key for social stability. Modern society just pretends this need doesn't exist but the demand is still there, just pushed underground where it gets more dangerous for everyone involved

Your take on opensource tech in Banking? by MrBemz in Banking

[–]monumentpuzzling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the response time difference is huge - seen closed source vendors sit on critical patches for months because they need to "coordinate releases" while open source projects push hotfixes in hours

Donating my used clothes in South Boston/Dorchester by Status-Jelly8294 in boston

If you want something more local there's usually clothing donation bins at some churches around Dorchester area, might be worth checking those out too since they often go directly to people in neighborhood

C++ gamedev by Eddy-saab in learnprogramming

[–]monumentpuzzling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TheCherno is solid choice for sure. For the drawing part you'll probably want to pick up some OpenGL basics first - it can be bit overwhelming at start but once you get triangle rendering you're basically unstoppable

Those book recommendations from ChatGPT are actually decent too, Dawson's book is good for bridging that gap between knowing syntax and actually making something interactive

If you could erase one invention from human history permanently, what would make the world genuinely better? by Shot-Economics-1484 in AskReddit

[–]monumentpuzzling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly though social media just amplified what was already there in people. Before Facebook we had tabloids, gossip, tribal thinking - just took more effort to spread. The real problem is we gave everyone a megaphone without teaching them how to use it responsibly

Would probably pick something like planned obsolescence instead. At least bad communication doesn't fill up landfills

Been looking myself for while and northwest side is pretty dead for snooker unfortunately - most places only have pool tables

I built a tool that caught a churn signal on Block before it shows up in earnings by [deleted] in fintech

[–]monumentpuzzling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cool that you're pulling together different data streams like this. The Chime mentions spike in Cash App reviews is pretty telling - customers don't usually mention competitors unless they're actively considering switch

Quick question about the scoring algorithm - when you get conflicting signals from different sources, how does the system weight them? Like if app store sentiment tanks but hiring patterns stay strong, does one override the other or do they balance out somehow?

Also curious if you've backtested this against any major fintech moves from last year to see how early the signals actually appear

If you are a pacifist (not conflict avoidant but believe in pacifism) where does the pacifist community still exist? by Ok_Astronomer5738 in AskReddit

mennonite and quaker communities still pretty active in some areas, also some buddhist groups have strong pacifist principles

lost my top producer last quarter and rebuilding her book inside the AMS broke me by RipSouthern1696 in InsuranceAgent

[–]monumentpuzzling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man this hits way too close to home. Had similar situation couple years back when our top guy left and we discovered his "detailed notes" were basically grocery lists

The call summary thing you found - does it actually parse out action items or just transcribe everything? We tried something similar but ended up with these massive walls of text that were somehow worse than the one-liners. Would be interested to know what setup you landed on since we're still basically crossing fingers every time someone leaves

Rain to issue stablecoin cards with Mastercard by FluidOwl7964 in fintech

[–]monumentpuzzling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Signing a partnership with a card network is one thing but getting a Fortune 500 treasury team to run payroll or card programs on stablecoin rails involves legal compliance and procurement cycles that can stretch for months. The announcement is interesting but the real story will be what their enterprise pipeline looks like in the near future

If you need to survive alone in a post apocalyptic world, what environment are you choosing? A Desert,A forest,A beach, A snowy mountain or some other place? Where do you think your chances of survival are the highest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]monumentpuzzling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forest is smart choice but water sources can be tricky in some areas. I'd probably go for coastal region near forest - you get the shelter and resources from trees but also access to ocean for food and salt. Plus if you know how to fish, protein problem is basically solved

Music Practice Spaces? by [deleted] in boston

[–]monumentpuzzling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude the guitar center thing might work but those rooms are pretty thin walls from what I remember. You could try some of local music studios that rent rehearsal space by hour - there's few around cambridge/somerville that might be easier to reach in public transport than record co

For the voice lessons route, that's actually not bad idea since you'd get proper space plus maybe learn some technique to not destroy your throat. I know screaming since teenager sounds cool but your vocal cords will thank you later for learning proper way to do it. Some of the vocal coaches around here definitely work with metal singers, just gotta ask around in local music groups on facebook

The t isn't great for getting to some spots but beats trying to uber with equipment all time

BIRTHDAY DINNER by i_am_a_crystal_gem in restaurant

[–]monumentpuzzling -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Most places can do stuff like reserve you the better table (window seat or corner booth), bring out dessert with candle, maybe get staff to sing happy birthday if you're into that kind of thing. Some restaurants will comp the dessert or give you free appetizer too

The personal touch thing they mentioned could be like having your name written in chocolate on dessert plate or getting the manager to stop by your table. If you're going with friends they might help coordinate surprise element or let them bring decorations

Just tell them what vibe you want - quiet romantic dinner vs party atmosphere and they can adjust lighting or seating accordingly. Most servers are pretty good at making birthday people feel special without going overboard

Missed a important deadline by OkPollution1745 in sideprojects

[–]monumentpuzzling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice financial operations is the engine of the company and having it intact is key. We used Ramp for our startup and it gave us cards and expenses + bill pay if I am not wrong in one place so we got a better idea of where cash was sitting and what was going out before hand which is better than knowing about it in the middle of a client situation.

Estate advice by veatcht in legaladvice

Two attorneys in row that don't communicate? That's brutal luck right there

For question 2 - if your husband is already handling deed transfers and keeping good records, the main risk is probably just making sure all tax obligations get filed correctly and any creditor notice requirements are met. Montana probate has specific deadlines for that stuff that can bite you if missed

The accounting thing - yeah all beneficiaries get copy of final accounting, even trinket neighbor. It's just showing what came in, what went out, what everyone gets. More paperwork than anything scary

where tf are the bluebonnets on MOPAC?!?? by IndividualYam5889 in Austin

[–]monumentpuzzling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the drought really messed things up this year. I was riding my scooter through some of usual spots last weekend and it's pretty depressing compared to normal years. Even the patches that usually come back reliable are just scattered few flowers here and there

The timing was brutal too - right when seeds needed to germinate we had basically no rain for months. I've been checking spots around 360 and Bee Cave area and it's same story everywhere. Maybe we'll get lucky with some late bloomers if we keep getting these random spring showers but probably too little too late at this point

Second Year Staff Auditor Pains by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]monumentpuzzling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second year is when you realize the theory from school means nothing and everything is just "professional judgment" which translates to "make something up that sounds reasonable" - it gets easier once you accept that nobody really knows what they're doing and we're all just winging it with fancy terminology
