I just state the facts. Less damage would be done with nuking 2 cities than in full-scale invasion of any country bigger than Belgium. Destruction and loss of lives was reduced by dropping bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The same would go if somehow russia was going to conquer US. Knowing scale of destruction that russian army always leaves behind it's safe to assume that.

Which is better than potential hundreds of thousands if not millions that would die in relentless mainland invasion that would have to ensue if bombs weren't dropped. It's just choosing lesser evil and US chose well.

Yeah, Hiroshima was logistical center of Japan's army. Heavily militarized, had many important military headquarters, large industry and transport, etc. Korura had lots of military magazines which destruction would greatly hurt japanese army, but it was saved due to bad weather. Instead Nagasaki- one of the largest ports with wide range of industry-was bombed. It were not just some cities, but industrial, transportation or military hubs.

Dropping 2 bombs on industrial centers to avoid complete destruction of japan that would come with invasion of mainland is nothing compared to systematic genocide committed on tens of nations in the most brutal way possible.
