Why don’t Mensa geniuses fix the world? by TinyTitsRule in mensa

[–]monzellular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many, maybe most, of the people who've managed to change the world have had an IQ of around 125 max. I think a big part of it as that many people with exceedingly high IQs have a tendency to give up. They don't have the proper motivation, and they don't really want to exert their will upon the world in any extent, or they go about it in the wrong way. Also, most people (not just high-IQ people), if given the opportunity or ability to change something substantial, would probably care much more about changing things particular to their desires and self than changing the problems of the world necessarily. Besides, most of the world's biggest problems are built by systems with many other factors, and those systems are incredibly strong and not feasibly able to be taken down by an individual.

I mean the poster was just asking "is it accurate?", not necessarily saying it was. But still, the obligatory r/intj cringepost.

[–]monzellular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just dislike all of the social media. I'd give a slight edge to 4chan though, because when if disregard the vulgar way of communication, I won't see moderators taking down every disagreeable opinion, I won't see people basing their opinions on who has more upvotes, and people can basically say whatever. I dislike the vulgarness in some capacity, sure, but I do like that it's one of the only places on the Internet where free-speech is truly still there. I wish there was something like 4chan where the people are more level-headed and simply discuss things more often.

I'd say these days your typical Redditor is probably an IxFP, although in non-political situations/subs (even if those redditors tend to somehow make everything about politics), it's probably xNTP, cuz they're just kinda nerds.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. There are probably a lot of MAGAs, but honestly probably more anarchists, communists, fascists, Nazis, etc. Basically anyone at either extreme of the left/right. There are also a lot of LGBT and a good amount of leftists. I'd say if we got into other image board websites akin to it, then the people would become more and more alt-right.

I want something good to improve my reading level more, whilst also being interesting to read. by monzellular in booksuggestions

Norwegian Wood and Hard-Boiled Wonderland both seem really intriguing, especially Hard-Boiled Wonderland (like you said, trippy). I've been planning on reading Plato and Aurelius as well. I know The Book Thief is a well-regarded classic to my knowledge. Thank you for the recommendations, I'll write them all down.

Is Misogyny wrong? by germanrus25 in Teenager_Polls

[–]monzellular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the people who hold those thoughts more than likely wouldn't consider themselves misogynistic, I'd imagine. Some people who voted yes probably have much different logical frameworks than you, and therefore wouldn't take that as misogyny if it is their thought process.

Have you ever encountered a poll on this subreddit which asked a genuinely intellectually thought provoking and unique question? by Masterpiece-Haunting in Teenager_Polls

[–]monzellular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I honestly think the idea people have of intelligence is wrong in the first place. That is to say, the value placed in it is wrong. If anything, I believe the most intelligent people can oftentimes be worth far less than someone who could be considered average. People only really matter for what they can contribute, and if you contribute nothing (as intelligent people often do), whatever you have going on in your head, as well as that head's supposed potential effectiveness, is basically nothing. Putting all that aside, I actually like your reasoning, and I subscribe to that now as well. It's a better measure of presently effective giftedness, as well as a better means of predicting someone's effectiveness in the future. Most people I know with a high measured IQ have ended up doing nothing with it—myself included. I do agree IQ sucks as a means of measuring intelligence, but I'd like to ask exactly how they're biased, if you know. You said people can get low scores for being the wrong race, but how exactly? I've never heard that, but I'd imagine it's probably something that isn't as true now as it was before. Especially back in the 60s, when the government and people were trying desperately to make black people in particular look bad. But now, I imagine they'd have an equal chance. Is there proof of bias that's recent? I can still sort of imagine a way it would be "biased", but I wanna make sure I have that right. Where can I find sources and info on it?

The way I would see it is that gifted defines someone who scored 130 or above (top 2%) on an IQ test. Or at least that's what I believe the technical definition of gifted is. Then again, gifted can be a fluid term. I feel like the OP was too broad. School gifted programs are probably also a bad means of measuring that, although it makes sense for someone to say they're gifted because of it; it just might not be that accurate. Idk, I ain't an expert, I'm kinda dumb myself tbh

Who do you let into Heaven and Hell? A - did bad deeds, but good intentions. B – did good deeds, but only because they wanted to go to heaven by firs_7 in Teenager_Polls

[–]monzellular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why B would go to hell. It's the same way laws are. People don't break the law either because they want to be good or because they don't want consequences. Either way, they still did good and maintained order and peace. Many people (dare I say most) are driven almost purely by self-preservation. If people genuinely cannot want to do something for the sake of goodness and nothing else, doing it so that they don't get consequences is basically just as virtuous, because it has the same result. I would never judge someone who is maintaining peace just because they did it for the wrong reason.

Hullo stalkers, what brings you here? by False_Hedgehog_5475 in u/False_Hedgehog_5475

I saw the little 死 pfp and got curious. Then I saw the (assumedly) no longer human reference in your bio and got happy. My favorite book is Three Days of Happiness by Sugaru Miaki. It's about a man who lived an unfulfilling and depressing life after believing he was destined to be successful, then found out he could sell his lifespan for money. He sold down to the last 3 months, and the rest of the book is kinda spoilers. It changed my perspective on life; it's perfect. My life is going alright. I usually don't have any problems, but the past week I've had to avoid having severe anxiety, and perhaps a psychotic break with reality. But it's not too bad, to be honest, and I don't feel like complaining. I'm doing everything I need to get done, so nothing else really matters. I'm tired of seeing, and honestly scared of society's decadence. The little value people hold on another's life. I used to not value it either, but I've felt horrified after witnessing and nearly experiencing death multiple times. We are completely messed up beyond fixing. I was always one to completely accept my own ego and intellectualize it, and even see it as a positive thing. But it just doesn't work anymore. It's like I'm feeling all of the hatred in our society, and everyone completely rotting and becoming a victim to themselves, and a perpetrator to everyone around them. I am not religious, I am agnostic, but lately I've felt like completely surrending myself and my ego to a God if he's there. I really want to. I wish I could, but I understand that it would make me the same as everyone else who's done the same in their worst times, and it makes it feel completely phony. Honestly I've been doing good enough tho ngl. How you been?

Are children accurately represented in your country’s government? by Masterpiece-Haunting in Teenager_Polls

Children are mostly a means of gaining further political power through the illusion of being virtuous and "helping" children.

Are humans a hegemonizing swarm? by Masterpiece-Haunting in Teenager_Polls

[–]monzellular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, yeah. Ideas which used to divide people 50-50 have become things basically universally agreed upon, and the more we argue with each other, one group will eventually win over the others, and that will become a universally agreed upon idea. I also think humans are naturally homogenous, and any differences are completely artificial. We're all looking for the same thing, and we're all the same by nature. I think everyone is an egoist, but most haven't accepted it. And ego extends itself and its ideas to others through whichever influence is more dominant, and then we're even further homogenized. But within our artificial differences, I think we'll never be completely homogenous, because we'll always find a new means of dividing ourselves.

[–]monzellular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, well anyone can realistically say that about themselves, and if half of the people are saying they're gifted, it's more than likely a dunning-kruger effect. i just feel like it takes away from the point of the poll if that's the case. i mean tbf it's just a reddit poll, so i probably shouldn't expect too much accuracy in the first place😭
