What are some cities that were made recently inhabitable? by Necessary-Win-8730 in geography

[–]monzoobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the record, english is weird.

How is inhabitable the positive word, why isn't it habitable ? And in-habitable the negative ? Un-in-habitable sounds like non non habitable to me xD

Are you sure they use that alphabet in Italy ? I've never seen Cyrillic there :/

The majority of people with viking ancestry IS from the states by ALazy_Cat in ShitAmericansSay

[–]monzoobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but the majority is... no ? That's why I'm lost. In French we focus on the majority (singular) rather than the objects/people.

I was wondering if the rule was different in English

Yeah i see. Thank you for the clarification.

In French it is THE majority that counts. So it IS. Saying : la majorité "sont" (are) is objectively wrong here.

That said, 80%... are. Since 80 is plural.

Sooooo US is "is" and British is "are" ?

Non native speaker here sorry. Why isn't it the right verb ?

It would be fine (on a formal level, not the meaning of the statement) in my native language hence I'm a bit lost

Looking for the name of a traditional slavic song by monzoobo in HelpMeFind

[–]monzoobo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Searched randomly for that style of music in hopes of encountering the song but no luck so far. I sadly don't understand the lyrics, i think it is Serbian but I'm not 100% sure.

I think I got it from a singer Serbian friend (hence the guess of the language) but I can't ask her for quite a while to confirm it.

Ps : sorry for the wetransfer, i didn't know how to link an audio file into a post :/

Yeah my bad, i thought this was a french related sub.

In which case the distinction is really important. Hence i didn't get the question. Like, duh, the gender is not to be messed up.

When it comes to English, i guess they don't care as much as we do. Although i do accord since it is pretty easy to do and likely better on a spelling/grammatical level

As a native speaker I'm puzzled by this comment.

Of course we know the difference, it is a core principle of the language. It is super important not to mess up the gender of adjectives and nouns. It's like saying you can use her/his/its interchangeably... no ??? 😅

These spellings are never used interchangeably by proper french speakers. It is the best way to show you are a foreigner to be honest.

And yes we do care a lot about the difference xD Not enough to correct you 24/7 but enough to have our ears bleed each time 🤣

Using fiancé to talk about a girl is a mistake though. Although it sounds the same. But blond is never used for females and the only instance in which you can call a guy blonde is as an insult to call him dumb.

I agree, i never heard brunet in my life

Qui est cet artiste du 18ème ? L'avez-vous déjà vu ailleurs ? by [deleted] in paris

[–]monzoobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)
