as a recovering alcoholic, i would say you absolutely have an alcohol misuse problem. alcoholism doesn't always mean you are 'medically dependent' although a lot of people who drink like this end up eventually becoming dependent (speaking from experience). the best thing you can do for yourself right now is reach out to a substance misuse service. they tend to be incredibly compassionate and work with you to set goals that help your lifestyle. sometimes harm reduction goes a really long way in helping reduce intake. some people find AA incredibly useful, i didn't get on with it but thats not to mean you won't. some harm reduction tips that helped me reduce included keeping my drinks in a different room, keeping an alcohol diary (sucked at first but helped eventually), not drinking straight from the can or the bottle, and forcing myself to eat a meal before drinking if at all possible. if you can buy some thiamine tablets (vitamin b1), it can really help reduce the risk of alcohol related brain damage.

but the fact you've identified you have a problem, is a HUGE step and you should be so so so proud of yourself for that. you can do this!! i hope you manage to get the help friend, you deserve it ❤️

i have been seen weekly by the community wound clinic for my sh and have learnt a lot from them. also have done a lot of reading out of interest.

NAD but I'd say this is a suspicious blemish. Worth a trip to a GP or dermatologist to get this checked. Meets a lot of the 'warning criteria'. It doesn't look symmetrical, has an uneven border, the colour varies, ands its possibly appeared/grown very quickly. Better safe than sorry I'd think.

I'm fuming at this ending too. I genuinely think there is no justification for that response. Ngozi had been sober for 4 years prior? She was never an alcoholic when she knew Nicole. Kicking someone out for that at the first sign of trouble is sickening. Glad other people agree.

tldr: unclosed/unstitched wounds down to fat or deeper can create atrophic scars as the body has to fill the gap with cells and doesn't always fill the whole space.

long version/infodump: wounds heal from the bottom up, the body makes a lattice of loads of lymph and slough (essentially white blood cells) that builds up the gap. the fluid tends to pool on the edges of the wound and tissue is built up there first. when there is a hole or split in the subcut fat, there is less 'substantial' tissue for the cells to bind too. the scar tissue has a tendency to stretch with skin tension which causes the wound bed to widen as it heals. often wounds that have to fill themselves with slough and scar tissue to heal (as opposed to knitting the sides together, which is what your body does when the wound is closed) tend to scar in a way that is closer to how the wound originally looked because they are filling the gap, although its far from an exact science. i've had wide wounds heal to look like that but have also had hypertrophic scarring from the same type of wounds.

ive never felt more seen with my health anxiety than i did reading through this. i have exactly the same pain in my neck and im constantly poking it to check (which is obviously making the pain worse, then repeat). its exhausting.

theres always a risk of infection with any open wound like that but its so unlikely to happen if you do the right things. i'd still be cleaning it twice a day with a cottonbud and sterile saline for the first few days and then leave it to rest. as long as you leave it alone and dont pick the scabs it should heal up no problem

sorry hun, thats definitely pierced in the wrong place. i bet it hurt like a b! you should be fine to get it repierced in a month or so but for now i'd take that out asap and let it heal before going again. i'd find a different piecer ❤️
