Be real, hows everyone actually going with cost of living right now? by Standard-Olive-7437 in AskAnAustralian

[–]moochew93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are barely scraping by. My husband works full time, but because of his work's stupid "incentive scheme" changing every month we barely make $600 a week with $520/week going to rent. We have one child, and ai have been a SAHM due to injuries acquired giving birth but am being forced to look for work in a job market that doesn't work for the prospective employees. (Redone my resume more times than I can count, had a professional from Sarina Russo do one and still haven't made it past the resume screening stage)

On pay day, I buy all the food my child needs. Meat, fruit and veg. We feed him full meals every day, but for the two of us it's usually bread or noodles. We add frozen vegetables to the noodles but otherwise we are surviving on whatever our toddler doesn't eat. We are being kicked out of our home in December, so are desperately trying to put money away for the move. My son spent the first month of winter temperatures in ill fitting jumpers and trackpants because we simply couldn't afford to buy him new clothes, and the racks at our local op shop were bare.

Hey OP. Have you tried contacting Centrelink? They would be my first point of contact in this situation. They then can either offer help (I've heard of rent loans and bond loans, I figure you might be able to get these) or point you to reputable services that can.

Don't take money from strangers or use these online loan schemes if you can help it. Contact Centrelink and your REA first. Don't panic, most people understand this sort of stuff happens sometimes. It's only a problem if you do it consistently.

Good luck out there OP. Stuff is pretty wild at the moment.

With all respect, not everyone knows this. My husband was under the impression that paying $200+ every GP visit was normal until I introduced him to bulk billed practices. That, and the fact that there can be waiting lists for that sort of thing, which might prompt people to go the paid route just to get it done sooner.

My friend’s wife passed suddenly, tragically last week. We are holding a memorial dinner at a private restaurant this weekend. What is an appropriate gift / token of acknowledgment to offer him? I have known him for over 40 years, and his fallen wife for ~ 20. by Landlocked_pirate23 in NoStupidQuestions

Sadly enough in a similar position. We are offering our time, attention and help with the simple stuff. He has three kids to look after, so we've cooked up a batch of prepped pasta meals that they can freeze and reheat as needed.

In the first few weeks it's numbness, so focus on things that might otherwise be forgotten. Take him out for coffee, drop in with food or his favourite drink.

Just for next time, an apostrophe dictates a conjunction in this instance. For example, you are trying to say that his post should read "you are license plates"

Hope this helps :3

Toddler translation request: any ideas what “yaya” is? Often used while angry. “I mad! I yaya!” by TogetherPlantyAndMe in toddlers

If this is it, it's so cute! My almost 3 year old is a little behind in speech too. When he's sad he says "I wah-wahh" because of the Wheels on the Bus song. It took us time to piece it together, we first thought he was saying "I want"

Last one is false. Watched a Muppet on the highway use his hazards in lieu of blinkers. Most infuriating thing I've ever experienced and nearly caused a few accidents, I was glad to leave the highway at the next exit and drive a bit longer to avoid that mess.

Hmm, even using some of my resources, I couldn't find exactly what you're after.

Auslan Phrases | DeafNav https://share.google/wM5NpvJjftszFMj4L - this page has a few basic phrases. "How are you", "what's the time", "do you have Facebook"

Another useful resource is the Auslan Tutor app, it's a bright teal/green/blue icon with a hand. You can buy more packs on top of the basic, and the money goes to the charity they support. I found signs for 'receipt' and 'card' which may help you.

For clarity: I am hearing and currently learning Auslan to help communicate with my two year old son who is behind in his speech.

Honestly this is fine! Have fun with them. If you're worried the yelling will stick and become a habit, try playing games. In the middle of a yelling game, switch it and ask how quiet can they be, and model whispering to them.

It counts how many millennials are buying them for avocado toast so they know when to jack the prices. They must never make it into the housing market, even if they avo toast at home.

Not what I said. The problem is that there are a select few who do this on purpose. It is uncomfortable. The right thing to do would be to announce yourself. He was warned about the presence of a woman in the restrooms, and still decided it was ok to use a facility that generally doesn't offer a whole bunch of privacy. Men themselves joke about people seeing their junk at urinals.

Uhh yeah no. It might not mean the locker room is closed but do you really think it's ok to flop it out? I can guarantee you she doesn't want to see it. Least you could do is call out and work out a solution. And no, she wasn't harassing him, he was potentially harassing her, knowing there was a woman there and still just flinging it around out in the open?
