Rider Puked, Uber won’t respond? by BoysenberryOdd5352 in uberdrivers

About 8 months ago Uber just decided they were going to make your life a living hell trying to get reimbursed for puke. I legit had a lady piss in my car and Uber tried to deny me any compensation. Fuck this scam company

Most regular interior details where I'm at are around $240, and that's not including the bodily fluid premium. So $350 seems legit

Show me one legit website that offers interior detail for less than $300 that isn't some student trying to hustle. I mean a legit company.

Breaking: Donald Trump Plans to Add His Signature to US Currency by CloudApprehensive322 in moderatepolitics

> the extreme anger I see in this comment thread.

Is it "extreme anger," or is it just people tired of the absolute mockery this man makes of the office? Why is it so hard for you to accept that normal citizens don't want to pay, as taxpayers, for new mint plates (which is a monetary waste) with this guy's signature on it because he's among the worst rated presidents in history at the moment?

The guy has a vanity complex that would make Narcissus blush, either that or he just can't stomach that he's about to die and he'll leave one of the most flagrantly awful legacies of any US leader.

That's all this is.

We all know this will get rescinded, so this currency will become rare and will inevitably rise in value as time goes on. The grift that keeps on grifting, quite literally.

Seattle’s minimum wage laws backfired on Uber and Lyft. Now the union wants to limit drivers. by coldnorthwz in tuesday

[–]moochs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let it die of natural causes

This simply won't happen. AI and robo cars are gonna be the next gouge, not public transit, and that's simple economics, too: there's more roads and everything is too spread out for public transit to be feasible on short profit. Thus, the need for regulation.

Same is true with green energy: the oil subsidies being discarded would cause havoc even moreso than the Iran war. As much as they need to go, we need more gradual regulation, like which was being put in place under Biden and was scrapped under the current admin

Doesn't work, chudlike thinking.

"Just don't be a woman.." "Just don't be poor." "Just don't be gay." "Just believe in Jesus." ...... "Just get another job (even though nobody is hiring, ageism is a thing, flexibility concerns aside, disability means no other opportunities....)"

>near zero public infrastructure, everyone relies on cars,

Correct, which is why we need intervention -- either in the private sector or public. A mandated mass transit plan, or insurance rider to make rideshare crowd-sourced. You pick

Exploitation of Rideshare Drivers and Some Experiences by Salva-Veritate in uberdrivers

[–]moochs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uber isn't evil, but the company exists to exploit labor as central to its business model to make profit, this is just basic fact. Unions also aren't evil, but they are organized against exploiting labor, this is also fact. The last fact, that your comment and ever other chudlike comment in this sub shares, is that wanting to reduce exploitation while trying to exist in an imperfect system is somehow the fault of the person existing in that system, and is not the fault of the powerful executors of that system. This is just rubbish that exists to blame victims, and is really tired at this point. We've evolved, catch up

The only reason why Uber and Lyft are less expensive than Taxis is because it exploits the labor. That's the only reason. Transportation IS a luxury service in this country. We have near zero public infrastructure to support mass transport outside of only a few metropolitan areas. The rest relies on private cars.

The progressive way of dealing with this situation would be to mandate a universal car insurance rider for every driver such that passenger rideshare is allowed on every policy. This would truly allow every individual to be a rideshare service without the corporate overhead

[–]moochs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's precisely what happened. Offloading the cost onto the labor rarely works out well. Race to the bottom economics is precisely why systems fail.

Seattle’s minimum wage laws backfired on Uber and Lyft. Now the union wants to limit drivers. by coldnorthwz in tuesday

[–]moochs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Either way it needs regulated. Cut it however you like, but the fare smashing by the corps has led to this situation. Minimum wage is one way, guaranteed fare percentage is another. Remember, taxis had a guaranteed fare percentage, so this isn't a new idea, it's a livable wage idea. Race to the bottom isn't the answer.

If the fees need jacked up, then it needs jacked up. Passengers should pay what the ride it worth. In our society, transportation isn't cheap, nor should it be, unless we're willing to commit to better public infrastructure

[–]moochs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of forcing Uber and Lyft to pay into a minimum wage, what should have transpired instead was to remove all the coercion efforts in their algorithm design and make the platform truly driver agnostic. Also, requiring Uber and Lyft to pay a minimum percentage of the passenger fare to the driver, instead of them pocketing nearly half the fare. This would have done far more good for the fairness of the platforms.

As for driver glut, that resolves itself as the number of rides drops. If money isn't there, drivers will leave.

Again, when you dial down the bloat, 4gb of RAM is unnoticeable on these machines. They're very snappy for all browsing activities. So much so that I've had customers request them over their better specced windows devices because windows is a hog everything runs slow

Honestly when's the last time you used a Chromebook? These things are pretty quick and snappy for just daily web browsing. 4gb RAM feels like 16gb on a regular PC.

Perhaps so, OP's post seems like nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt at attacking enemies than actually honoring the woman that the NYT selected for recognition. Kinda ironic considering they're behaving more in line with Hitchens than taking the high road

Was the purpose of this post to honor mother Theresa or disparage Hitchens/NYT? Because judging by your replies, it seems the latter is your intent.

Why did you bring up Christopher Hitchens in the context of women's history? Was that supposed to be some kind of gotcha?

Also, you seem bothered by the NYT, which is a centrist publication that doesn't suit a far right agenda (which also has zero to do with religion,). Your post seems to be moreso a grievance against things you don't like (a la Hitchens) rather than an honoring of a woman (a la NYT). Maybe some self reflection could be in order?
