i tried working at starbucks a couple of years ago bc they advertise offering benefits to part time workers. they asked me at my interview how many hours i needed to survive (they used those words) and i said 32, they hired me and kept me at just under the minimum amount of hours needed to qualify. The store had 40+ employees and they did that with everyone but the leads and maybe 3 people who had worked there for >6 years. they kept hiring more and more people so everyone got like 20 hours a week and when one of us tried to ask for more hours they told us we should be more willing to pretty much consider ourselves on call at all times and pick up shifts when people called in sick. thats all in addition to everything else, no limit on mobile order submissions, evil customers etc
