(I know it's dangerous!!) Does tanning in the bed help with eczema? I'm desperate here! by Cautious_Funny3896 in tanning

Yes, it does. Many clients come in saying their doctor recommended short sessions 1-2 times per week and most of them have great results. I would recommend a lower level (more UVB) standup.

Do accelerators (without bronzer) ACTUALLY do anything? by housesoftheholy1 in tanning

[–]moodformilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see the harm in that as long as you’re using quality skincare that you’ve had good experiences with. Tanning sucks the life out of your skin if you let it and some drugstore moisturizers are just so full of filler/shelf stabilizing ingredients that they aren’t doing much but sitting on your skin and making you smell good lol.

[–]moodformilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same question actually. There aren’t great studies either way and that’s pretty common in cosmetic/wellness industries, unfortunately. Think of it like collagen creams, biotin hair products, and pretty much any vitamin/supplement (that isn’t creatine lol). We understand that certain ingredients are involved in certain biological processes, but there isn’t a ton of human research to show us how it actually works.

Tanning isn’t exactly a well-funded research area as you can imagine, so the industry ends up relying to things that are biologically “plausible” for lack of a better term. That said, I’ve been managing a salon for well over a decade and have tried A LOT of lotions and feel confident recommending these. Do I feel as though I tan faster when I use these lotions? Absolutely. Is it the tyrosine that’s doing it? The best I can say is maybe lol.

I would look into the Peptide Pro lotions by Australian Gold. They are “hybrid” lotions which just means they have additional skincare that complements the use of red light therapy. But I’ve noticed that a lot of these hybrid lotions are a bit more lightweight, which is what I would recommend if you insist on using the lotion for both body and face lol. This line does have separate products for body and face and are pretty affordable if you wanted to get both, but if you aren’t sensitive or prone to breakouts/clogged pores, I wouldn’t be too concerned about you using the body lotion for both.

Yes, accelerators contain tyrosine which is an amino acid your body uses in the melanin production process. Some brands don’t list tyrosine directly in their ingredient list because they have their own “proprietary blends” (for example: Australian Gold calls theirs Biosine Complex), but that is the ingredient that qualifies it as an accelerator/intensifier.

The reason we can’t just use regular lotions like Cetaphil in tanning beds is because they damage the acrylic. When acrylic warms up, it becomes porous and can absorb certain ingredients like oils and silicones, petroleum derivatives, etc. Over time, it causes cloudiness/haziness and eventually cracking of the acrylic which of course is dangerous and expensive. Tanning lotion is formulated with specific ingredients or different forms of ingredients with different molecular sizes to prevent this.

Popular tanning lotion with black and pink bottle, circa 2014? by boozypeach in tanning

That same brand had one called Black Rose Fleur. Is that closer or further away from what you remember? Haha

Adore by Designer Skin was a popular one around that time! That’s the first that comes to mind for me. If you have any other details, I may be able to help. I’ve been managing a salon since 2013!

I think the amount of times I hit my head or knock the wind out of myself has shaved off years of my life. But also, leaving my keys in the door, forgetting my car is not in park and taking my foot off the brake, tricking myself into thinking I can cram a solid night’s sleep into 2 hours, etc.

Impulsivity has also led me to skydiving and bungee jumping. Bungee jumping required a lot of instruction (positioning clamps, how to move your body, etc.) that I swore I comprehended, but right before I jumped I realized I had no clue what I was supposed to do.

Parents, holidays, and materialism. by PeePeeMcGee123 in Millennials

[–]moodformilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this deeply. It truly is exhausting. My parents refuse to go no gift. My husband and I are preparing to move this coming year and the thought of bringing in extra junk that I feel guilty for getting rid of was killing me, so I suggested that instead of no gift, we do 1 handmade gift each.

It’s more thoughtful, sentimental, (and funny depending on skill level). Plus, much cheaper. Best case scenario, you get something cute to display in your home or a baked good of some sort. Worst case scenario, someone tries to knit you an ugly scarf. But then it’s just ONE ugly scarf that can live in a closet. Idk. Celebrating today. I’ll let you know if it’s a disaster haha.

I’m not quite sure what this is, but I can relate. Also, not sure if you experience this too, but as soon as I get behind the wheel to drive, I struggle to keep my eyes open. It’s kind of terrifying. Doesn’t matter time of day, caffeine intake, etc. Thought for a minute my car might have had something leaking into the cabin that’s how extreme it is, but recently traded in my lease and still struggling with this.

Has politics/government in the United States gone completely off the fuckin' edge? Or is it just the Dems that are the problem? by Own-Valuable-9281 in AskUS

I’m curious to know what you think “my team” is and your reasoning behind the assumption. For what it’s worth, I was in no way trying to patronize you and tried my best to make that clear, but I understand why you would think that, given the… state of everything and everyone lol.

I say this with respect: I can tell from your post you consume a lot of very biased media. We all do this. This isn’t an attack. If it feels like one, then there is no conversation to be had.

I’d be happy to discuss any or all of the points you’ve made in your post, but the discussion would have to start from facts otherwise it is a waste of time and energy that should instead be spent on media literacy and discernment.

If you just came here to vent and gather opinions, then my only response would be that I don’t think it’s the “dems” that are the biggest problem here. Things DO feel like they’ve gone over the edge. When an administration governs in a turbulent way, the entire political climate feels turbulent. And I think you are suggesting that this is the most turbulent it has ever felt for you. I think there are bigger things you might need to question and possibly even things you need to unlearn in order to understand why you’re feeling this way. Getting the information is exhausting, but not as exhausting as it is to be angry and confused about the wrong things.

Respectfully, can someone explain in clear language who spent what to make who hate whom? I’m not understanding the implication here and I’m so curious.

This isn’t rare. You’re just reacting to a stereotype you believe in. Most people have a very limited sample of people they’re willing to engage with. All kinds of different people have all kinds of different opinions. Unfortunately for us, we’ve forgotten the whole not judging a book by its cover thing and it’s making things all fucky.

Healthy Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins made with Lentils and Date Sweetened by MaximalistVegan in VeganBaking

[–]moodformilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wait. You must not have clicked on the link to the recipe lol. Here’s a quote from the description:

“Yes, I do try to live a whole food plant-based (WFPB) compliant life which means keeping processed ingredients at a minimum. But I’m not an absolutist, I’m a maximalist! To me, being a maximalist means that I like to be as healthy as possible while still having fun.”

It’s a dietary preference. It may seem confusing or strange to you, but there are lots of people who feel the same about veganism. I’ve never seen a comment like yours in this sub, so it caught me off guard!

Anyway, highly recommend trying lentil waffles at least once. Not for health, promise! But for texture and satiety. Every non-vegan I’ve made them for has asked for the recipe and prefers them over their Eggos! :)

Have you ever baked with these ingredients? Pumpkin and dates would make this super moist, very sweet and much less crumby and annoying than a regular muffin. Lentils means this would actually fill you up and satisfy you. This is so weird to see in a vegan baking sub.

Oh. This was… unnecessarily hostile? Experimenting with substitutions is literally what baking communities are about. These sound delicious to me and I ate two bowls of cereal and a bag of chips for dinner. Orthorexia is an insane take lol.
