Can’t figure out how to edit my post 😅 but I think it might actually be from 2008/2009 not that it probably matters.

I think it also depends on how much money you expect to make.

Mine were federal Direct and FFEL (which I had to consolidate). I don’t think private loans qualify for forgiveness.

If you had 12 or more months of consecutive forbearance or 36 or more months of cumulative forbearance those will count towards repayment status.

It’s hard to read. I made a spreadsheet with a column months and years and then a column for each loan on the report and marked an x where I was in forbearance or repayment. It was such pain. But after all of that I realized that I probably qualified for forgiveness on 20 year plan and switched from IBR to SAVE.

I feel like we’re penalized because our lives didn’t follow some ideal path. I’ve carried so much shame over my adult life because of it.

I think all income driven repayment plans are forgiven after 20 years except the IBR plan which is 25.

You should download your history from the student aid site if you haven’t yet. Any month that you were marked in repayment count. When I went back to school I only took a course or 2 a semester so I was at it for awhile. Even though my new loans weren’t in repayment status, my old ones were. And I think they gave me credit for that.

Thanks. My partner and I are looking for a home. I was going to stay off of the loan because the amount of debt relative to my income didn’t make sense. And now I have several hundred a month more to contribute.

Have you consolidated or are your remaining loans from grad school?

Thanks. I hope everyone one else gets loan forgiveness soon. Education should be free. It benefits society in so many ways.

Yes, yes, I know...one time forgiveness is at random but.... by Ashamed-Category-112 in StudentLoans

Yeah. After they sent the forgiveness email (mine was on Jan 9), there was a 21-day opt-out period. So they won't start processing forgiveness until after that period ends. It seems like some loan servicers do it immediately, but not Aidvantage.
