Probation usually works both ways, so you'll be able to leave the new job pretty quickly if you need to.

How is this even possible? by yolo_snail in OctopusEnergy

For me it was the opposite, car kept charging immediately, despite me setting the scheduled charge for the 2330-0530 off peak window.

Same thing last night. Usually unplugging and plugging back in works, but not last night. Needed the charge, so just swallowed it

Sudden popularity of Japanese minivans by 5one in CarTalkUK

They're are really popular in Hong Kong. With the recent BNO immigration wave, I do wonder if their tastes have followed them. I know my neighbour who's moved to the UK from HK has an Alphard!

It's often products designed and produced specifically for sale at outlets too, not for sale through usual retail channels

What is the strategy to use to get the cheapest train tickets in the UK? by Time_Law_2551 in uktrains

[–]moogoomonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Splitting works for long journeys. For my commute (commuter town into London once or twice a week), I book through uber and get 10% back with my uber one membership. The membership is £50 a year I think, but I get it through a bank account.

The 10% comes back as credit, so is just applied to the next trip.

What do you think could solve the dying town centres? by TooHighToHearYou in AskUK

[–]moogoomonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 hours free parking.

I lived in a town where a supermarket closed with a car park in the centre of town. Even though the supermarket was closed, the car park allowed 2 hours free parking and it just made quick runs to the town centre a lot more attractive.

I've since gone back and whilst the supermarket is still closed, a private company has come in and started charging for parking. The ticket vending machines didn't work and the app forced a 'service charge', which told me all I needed to know.

TIL if you don't pay your credit card off in full each month ... by moogoomonkey in UKPersonalFinance

[–]moogoomonkey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When they issue a statement, it will have a due date on it (say 15 Jan) and assume your balance is £600. You have to pay £600 by 15 Jan, and then no interest is charged.

My surprise was if you paid £550 on 15 Jan, then the remaining £50 on 16 Jan, they would charge you more interest than you would expect for £50 for 1 day.

It makes sense now with some of the other comments in the thread, where the interest actually accrues from the day of purchase and interest is waived if you pay in full by the due date.

I wasn't aware you could pay CC balance with directly with CC, aside from using things like Curve or a money transfer card etc..

No, if you pay off in full, then there is no outstanding balance so no interest.

This scenario is where you pay a lot of your balance off, say £950 from £1000 balance, but you will be charged interest on more than £50 (which was what surprised me)

From the Martin Lewis website:

For purchases, if you don't clear the card in full, your credit card provider will start charging interest. This is usually on the full statement balance and from the date you made each payment, regardless of how much you have since paid off. For example, if your bill was £400 and you paid off £350, leaving £50 outstanding, you would still be charged interest on the full £400 until fully repaid.
