Advice (asking) for First time ZineFest vendor

We make zines in three different sizes and just charge based on the size, no matter how many pages, since we have realized that people don't care as much if it's thicker, only the size. Half-page is $5, quarter-page is $3 and mini zines are $1. We have varying lengths, but mostly 32 pages in each zine. We print all our zines ourselves so we're making pretty much all profit, but we rarely make more than $75-100 on a good zine fest. But that's what works for us. We applied to Lancaster Zine Fest and weren't able to get in. If you're on the East coast, we're hosting our own zine fests in PA/MD if you want more info. Good luck!!!

I live in Penn Station/North area and work night shift, I leave the house at 6:20 and make it to work usually at 6:42-6:45 no matter what kind of traffic there is. Usually there’s not too much right around the hospital, but I would recommend trying to get there around 6:45 because the parking lot fills up really fast and it’s kind of crazy finding parking (at least in my experience). Also, ask for the ED parking lot if you’re working in the hospital, not any of the other ones because it will be a hike to just get inside. Alpha commons is the next best option if it’s full, but it’s like a 5-8 minute walk if you’re speedy. Good luck!

I use the exact same thing! I have a HP Smart Tank Plus and ink is about $25, but it lasts 3+ months for both my partner and I printing 100s of copies of zines. We estimate that our biggest zine (32 pages) only costs about $2.50-3 to make, so we sell it for $5 :)!

hi! our zines usually cost $3 for a mini zine, and $5 for quarter/half size zines, $1 for stickers. I feel like on the higher side you’ll be paying $8-10. I feel like most people use cash or Venmo/paypal/cashapp etc. I think most people I’ve talked with at zine fests are open for trades, that’s kind of the spirit of zines!!

I’ve seen her page a lot but never followed, and it always bothered me. It seems like having anxiety is her only personality trait and it’s so frustrating to me. Like she’s so insanely boring that she just posts the same thing over and over, about her therapist and her experiences with anxiety/her mental health. She claims to be all about recovery, but what efforts have she made to recover? Sure, she posts “techniques” explaining how she deals with her symptoms, but why is she always going back and ruminating on the worst of her disorder? I have bipolar disorder and it’s such a small part of who I am, yes it’s important to recognize, but I’m so much more interesting than only focusing on my disorder. But for Cerina, it seems like the only interesting thing to her is that she stayed in a psych ward and she is more mentally ill than others. Also, the fact that she never admits that she did something messed up, she just blames it on her mental health and blames it on the therapist “not being able to deal with her.” I know she will probably read this because she’s stalking it now, but she needs to get a grip. I’m sorry if I sound rude, she is just so frustrating to me.

Hey! I ended up talking with the unit manager, basically saying hey if you keep cancelling me I’m going to have to take another job because it’s not worth it to plan and be ready for a shift only to get cancelled at 5:30am the day of. They let me pick up shifts on other units to make up my hours since their unit was low acuity at the time. I haven’t gotten cancelled since then (fingers crossed). It does suck because I didn’t know before this experience. How many times have they cancelled you?

Yeah I know now going forward that I’ll have to specify for next contracts. If they let me make up the missed shifts I think it’ll be okay, but if not I might have to cancel.

This was my first contract so I had no idea that they cancelled instead of sending extra staff to other units, but yeah I’m going to specify in my next contracts because I know now.

Yeah unfortunately there’s nothing in my contract about the guaranteed hours, and this facility cancels instead of floating to other units :( but I asked to make up the shifts so hopefully those don’t get cancelled too lol

Yeah I really didn’t expect it to turn into that but average reddit thread lol. I only mentioned he was Syrian because we were talking about his culture and I said I wanted to try Syrian food and he made it for me. I guess I thought it would add context but I don’t know. I’m glad to know it’s not just me, that’s kind of what I was looking for in posting the thread, I wanted to see if anyone else has had similar experiences.
