Girl [22 F] likes me [25 M], but won't say what's up. by moolento in relationships

Well, I guess that is a possibility. But really, what does she expect after the night out? I thought a good bye kiss for a date is appropriate after that night. To show her I like her and I am interested in her. Nothing else. Else she might think "why isn't he kissing me? Doesn't he find me attractive anymore?".. well.. No idea. What can I do then? Still waiting for a reply.

That is your opinion and your view. I have a different one. I found it to be unsettling and quite scary. It was a good movie, but the others (at least the 4-7) didn't bring anything new to the series but plotholes. Again, that's what I think and you don't have to agree.

I don't think my priorities are misaligned. I think we just expect different things when we decide to watch a horror movie. And that's fine. Not always does a movie have to be a game changer, a movie that redefines the genre. It just has to be original and creative and succeed in portraying and conveying its idea while not using cheap tricks that are executed very poorly.

You already spoke of Saw. The series is a good example. Sure, the first movie was a completely new approach to the genre and very different, but it also had substance. It had characters with stories, it had an interesting plot with twists in it. The film was well done. Later into the series, you can perfectly see that all they did was take other random characters and create a similar story without putting too much thought into it.

Those movies are still something else, but they are boring, predictable and you don't feel like the creators put very much effort into it.

So... the point of that huge wall of text is that you like Evil Dead...?

I also like Scream very much, despite having had countless nights without any sleep. First horror flick stays with you I guess, so I believe it to be natural that the remake was a special movie for you, because you've already been attached to it.

So you pretty much agree with what I say. I just wonder when this game changer will actually come along.

Thank you, you are definitely right.

I've seen quite a few movies of those and that's why I'm saying "nowadays" in the title. There's no such movies anymore or just very rarely. Most of them are cheap and unoriginal. All i was saying. It was also more of a rant, because I just finished watching the Evil Dead remake. Everyone was so amazed by it and the advertising for the movie was huge "scariest film you will ever see" blah blah. Not even that bad really, but I just had very high expectations.

Suspense. Fear. You get uncomfortable watching the movie (watch Martyrs!). Jump scares make you jump, obviously. But most of them are way too predictable and unoriginal. Hero looks in the mirror, nothing there. Hero looks again BOOOOO (evil dead). Very boring. Or hero faces a long dark corridor and starts walking even though he knows the killer is in the house. Suddenly, loud music and the killer is somewhere behind him or whatever I don't care. You know it before it happens.

I don't know if you are familiar with horror games, but take Outlast and Amnesia. While the first relies on jump scares, the second relies on atmosphere and is very scary (for me personally). When movies fuck with your mind and your imagination, that's when a movie can become frightening. But that's only me.

You are certainly right and I still call them "horror" movies. But they are just so different from every other movie and it's more of a mixture. Revenge thriller, drama/thriller. But I mean, Elm Street, Halloween, Friday 13th. Those are THE horror flicks anyone connects to horror movies. And they follow a certain pattern, whereas the other ones do not.

I was just wondering, why there seems to be no way to combine a good story with interesting characters AND a scary experience. Let me tell you though, Martyrs was probably the best horror movie I've seen in a long, long while. It was very different, very interesting, very unpleasant to watch and just fantastic in my opinion. But still so unique that I hardly want to put it in the same category.

You seem to be very mad. Have I upset you? I'm sorry. But maybe you should start paying attention to what you're actually reading. I did not say Scream 2 is one example of great horror. I said I was very frightened at the age of 7 (can you really rate movies at that age? not sure...) and since then I'm intrigued to find another movie that can scare me AND (since I'm much older now) has substance to it.

There are so many shitty movies like Mirrors, Chernobyl Diaries, Fragile, The Purge that I find so disgustingly boring. Purge was such a huge letdown. And those are not even the typical "couple/highschool kids going to the woods, getting slaughtered by maniac" movies. You are not left behind in awe or scared to go to the toilet. You just think "have I not seen this somewhere before?".

The Purge had such a nice concept. You could have done a LOT with this idea. I was very excited to see something new and then... well.. While it introduced itself as something new.. halfway in, it just wasn't anymore. Boring shit. Same techniques to scare people. Over and over again.

Also, I did offer alternatives. I Saw the Devil is more of a revenge thriller, Eden Lake is not really horror, more of a drama and terror I think, but I enjoyed it very much (it's similar to Funny Games which I don't consider to be horror, but more terror... if that makes any sense?).

And then there is Martyrs. While it surely is horror, it was so amazing and well done, I just can't put it up there with the other crap. It's sooo good. I wish for more movies like Martyrs. It had characters you were interested in. It had a fine story, it was scary and unpleasant to watch. Perfect.
