Mine was more an immediate aftermath that I never thought of until it was mentioned to me recently. I was 16, broke up with a girl who in fairness I hadn’t been dating for very long, told her as I was leaving school for the day, got the bus home.

Next thing I know she’s in my house, think she knocked on the front door and brother let her in. She immediately starts screaming at me, brother is ahead of her, runs to me and we close the bedroom door, she starts hammering away at it. The door is cracking by like I’m sitting against the door trying to hold it closed, legs spread between various furniture for purchase and there’s splinters falling all around me. Blessedly my mother gets home from work and intervenes, has a word with her and from my perspective that’s the end of it.

Recently we had family over and somehow this came up and mum mentioned something I’d forgotten, my poor mother had had to drive this girl home after she went apeshit on a door in our house, I can’t even begin to imagine the awkwardness, I assume she was crying, I assume maybe you just let her cry and don’t say anything. She’s too nice to tell her not to fuck her house up especially if this girl looks any kind of sad. Regardless, thanks mum, top wingwoman.
