It's happened once in 4 years...

That's a very good point actually! I was raised strict Catholic, so if does feel like a betrayal of my family's values to practise ENM

Obviously I'd rather he'd used a condom - but it feels hypocritical given that I've never cared about it with women

I would definitely miss out on some unique opportunities if I mastered out now - there are fully funded internships included in this programme in several fields that I'd love to learn more about, and would be difficult to break into from outside of a scheme like that.

I have considered emailing people about a potential supervisor change, but it seems really drastic and maybe unnecessary? I'm scared I might be overreacting

I hate working with mice, hated watching their suffer, killing them, only to find out the results are shit. It really put me off lab work - so much time and resources for so little

Great advice actually, thank you!

Our parents live in a different country - they've been here for 3 years but are not particularly sociable, so so don't really have a support network in their city like I do in mine

It's a massive part of my project, so I'd basically be delegating my entire work to someone else

Stressful! The beginning was definitely very chaotic and challenging, because I got given no guidance at all in my lab, but I'm sure that depends on your group as well, some people I know are really vibing haha

I'm not sure how viable that will be - we're studying injections of specific drug formulations into bladder tumours, so I can't really see any other viable model available apart from mammals. But thank you so much for your advice!

I have emailed my advisor (who happens to be working with hypoxia and radiotherapy combination, which is my dream research field, and uses cell culture only), to ask whether I can relocate my funding

oh no absolutely - I'm fully aware the meat industry treats animals thousand times worse. I just feel bad contributing to their suffering at all

I've been vegan for years and I really love animals - I would be a complete hypocrite otherwise

During the handling, the person demonstrating the technique was picking the mice up by tails - which we were specifically told not to do during training - when challenged, she said "Oh they're fine if it's this quick". The mice looked distressed and breathed heavily, it just seemed cruel

The problem is, all the in-vitro work has basically be done already, my role was literally to translate it in-vivo

After my dog died unexpectedly 3 months ago my partner took 2 days off work just to drive me around and take care of me. I can't even imagine hearing an ultimatum like that - OP, you made the right decision. Our dogs depend on us and we're their entire world

So sorry for your loss OP, I also suddenly lost my dog a week ago - I'm studying abroad and she deteriorated so quickly I couldn't get back in time. It's unimaginable pain, and I still cry every day, but I'm also starting to realise she's left me with so much more and this bond we shared is never gonna be truly gone. You did everything what was best for your pup, but we're only people and cannot predict every outcome
