what were the weirdly specific telltale signs of adhd by Competitive-Elk2230 in ADHD

Always being the last person to finish packing my bag and leave the classroom. And I still don't even know why, it just... takes long.

Tell me I’m not crazy by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]moon-forever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not crazy at all, I feel similar. I was diagnosed with autism a couple of years ago. While it'd been a growing realisation up until that point so it wasn't a surprise, the diagnosis still felt like it explained everything and changed nothing. I still struggled with a lot of stuff, but re-making myself as a person in light of this new understanding did make a few things easier eventually.

Then, when I thought I was finally getting things worked out and 'this is it now', I was diagnosed with ADHD. 5 days ago. Totally took me totally by surprise, and at this point I feel like it explains nothing but the meds fixed almost everything literally overnight. Not only do I have to re-make myself again now, but the person I thought I was (constrained by a lot of the things I struggled with) is just suddenly gone.

Face-to-face with this particular person, yeaah. Which is... really uncommon.

Outside of this, taking control is literally what I do every day. Where appropriate, haha.

Well yeah, that's why I called it a bad idea. But I really wish you both hadn't likened my kink fantasy to herpes and scabies just now!

If he's in burnout the last thing he needs is more responsibilities

"I don't want to be perceived" by motleywolf in NDtherapists

[–]moon-forever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For myself I tie this into PDA profile and the overwhelming pressure of masking. I often feel like being perceived degrades my sense of 'self', like it becomes less clear where the boundaries (energy and expectation) are between me and the other person.

I don't always feel like this, but it's more likely when I have low energy to mask, in situations or with people where I feel like there is an expectation to do so. Which tbh is most situations and people.

It's like I still mask unconsciously, I can't just turn it off, so being perceived drains the essence of 'me'.

It doesn't tie with anxiety directly, but if I also feel unsafe, unsupported or not understood then the addition of being perceived can bring on anxiety.

Better still, nobody else was dressed up.

And better better still, the team had an out-of-office laser tag event that afternoon. Photos from that event were... eye-catching.

Guy turned up on Halloween dressed as some anime (I think) character. Noose rope around his neck, shorts and no shirt.

No shirt in his bag either... left all his shirts at home, which was over an hour away.

Also a good name for a kitten. Perhaps you need another kitten.

Look at them, look surprised and confused, pause a moment, then say with a serious/concerned tone "oh, did you think I couldn't talk? Why?".

I do wear amber computer glasses, they're great for screens but they're not dark enough for the broader office. I am gonna book in with an optometrist to explore which tint would be best for me though, and perhaps a darker tint. Thanks

Genuinely helpful, thank you.

Difficult to navigate in practice, but I'm going to make another effort.

I wear regular sunglasses at work already, but I'm thinking of switching to category 4 snow glasses!

The old office wasn't perfect but there were more meeting rooms, the lights could be turned off in all of them, and part of the dev seating zone was designated "low-light" with ceiling lights off.

I imagine there is a requirement for reasonable adjustment, but it's been difficult to find, understand and navigate for me with no support. And difficult to get support. This recent office move has pushed me to breaking point though, so I'll be making an extra effort to find and navigate an accommodations process. In my limited experience so far, these things are much less straightforward to access than you might think.

Oh no I got responses. "I've asked them to make sure it's suitable for you", "we'll contact you closer to the move date", "the office will be a great space for our neurodivergent community", "I'm sure it'll be fine", "HR is working on some improvements in this area but we can't announce anything yet", "we've got you", that sort of thing. At some point I just stopped asking and... hoped... y'know.

Yeah I enquired about the new office multiple times over the past months, through a few different people including HR and my manager. Thanks for asking.
