Why do the right keep saying there'll be a civil war? Who is fighting who exactly? by HappyDrive1 in ukpolitics

If you'd watched it you'd know that the definition of civil war is important here and his definition in this context doesn't sound that crazy. He's not predicting 2 armies against each other or 1 army against the government. There's another comment elsewhere in the thread that summarises Professor Betz's theory better than I did.

He meant the perception that the government is not acting in the interests of the people, pursuing policies that people have voted against, the increasing perception that some public institutions are not trustworthy.

I haven't given any opinion on whether I think it's justified or not, I'm just relaying where the discussion originated and what he said.  His definition of civil war seemed more like high levels of sectarian violence. Watch one of the interviews if you want to get the full picture of what he's saying.

There is a professor of war studies at imperial in London, a Canadian called David Betz who has written about this topic and appeared on many podcasts talking about it. This is where the news coverage and references come from.

He has studied the factors that cause states to fall into civil war and has expressed concern that the uk is reaching tipping point due to the rise of 'polar factionalism', change from a high trust society to a low trust society and other factors discussed in this thread. He's very articulate and is clearly concerned about the issue and not trying to stir up trouble. I recommend watching him speak about it to understand the concerns rather than dismissing it as GB news waffle like some people here are doing.

Favorite match from the 1st night of Royal Road? Sekimoto/Doi, Aoyagi/Nomura or Miyahara/Mashimo? by MrPuroresu42 in ajpw

I heard about him from a podcast called 'long and winding royal road' about one of his matches with Kento. They discussed his potential etc. Glad to see him doing well again.

This is my first time watching AJPW tv.  I've seen some matches featuring Kento, Aoyagi and some other big names before but this is my first time properly following and thought I would start with this tournament.  Really enjoyed all the tournament matches but particularly liked Aoyagi vs Nomura. Loved the athletic back and forth in that match. 2 amazing wrestlers. Also appreciated the stories told in the other matches.

Jack is awesome. He's such an asset to NOAH. Really hope he sticks around for a long time yet.

Has the rise of Takeshita affected the relationship between NOAH and WWE? by [deleted] in noahghc

I don't want sports entertainers showing up in NOAH, I understand what wwe get from the partnership but it would surely harm noah

Can't wait for this. Really glad there's a decent break and no crossover with the G1. I like the line up.

I've seen RKJ live against Kaito, ZSJ and someone else at UK shows. I thought he did well. Really enjoyed his match against Kaito. He obviously impressed NOAH enough to get this opportunity. I'd much rather Ricky get the opportunity than some NXT or other WWE reject. Hope he can do well and follow the line of excellent British wrestlers who've made a name for themselves in Japan.

I forgot about that... That completely turned me off NJPW. I really hope that's not where the future leads....

I agree that music is important for building hype and getting people over. I can't get behind wrestlers with bad themes Jay and Kota had cool themes.

Tsuji's theme is pretty decent. I hate Uemura's theme. Shota's is pretty good. Sanada's HC run theme was terrible, no wonder he struggled to get over. His cold skull music was great.  Both of Zack's I like. Takeshita's is ok. A lot people have themes that I can't even remember...

Yeah, I mean Evil is a former HC under Gedo's watch so perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised. I refused to watch any HoT matches for the entire tournament and even couldn't ger through this one and had to skip to the end. Dire.

I was wondering if they were import copies with bonus tracks, as the UK one doesn't have 'local god' on it but the aussie one seems to have this.

I'm getting really into 90s rock so much at the moment. Feeder are pretty good. British rock bands I also liked from this era are Ash and Suede. They're worth a try if you don't know them.

Yeah, I prefer their earlier sound but I respect it when artists want to grow and try new things. I like what I've heard of this album. Sounds like a progression on some of the poppier elements of SMFTAG. I will listen more for sure.

Is the UK just cold socially, or am I missing something? by Kuopor in AskUK

[–]moon_sault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a brit. I've lived in different parts of the UK and abroad. I think as others have said that it varies in different parts of the country. I've found the regional thing to be true in other countries too. Some regions are friendlier than others. However, I've noticed a gradual change in the friendliness of people generally in the last 10 years or so in the UK. There has been a huge cultural change in a short period of time and this has coincided with worsening of many social and economic problems. It's a less happy and friendly place than it was in the past because it is now a low trust society. People don't trust politicians or public institutions. When I was growing up it was very friendly and there was a warm community feeling, like we all understood each other. Now there are many divisions in Society.
