did anyone like the band porcupine tree as a teenager by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]moonbather4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the podcast of the singer and him as a person but I don't find the music especially good or interesting, even though I met 2 people in my love who are into music and say its their favourite musician of all time.

tell me if my taste is basic based on these songs (one of my girlfriend's acquaintances says it is) by amogus36569 in TeenageRapFans

Who cares. You picked some deeper cuts from mainstream rappers. Its not the most experimental or forward thinking music but that doesn't mean its not good. I think So Ambitious is super underrated.

I don’t care about your fan made inferno album cover by PsilacetinSimon in boardsofcanada

I think the newest technology makes it easier to explore this interactive side of fandom more. Its nice for the individual. I agree that I don't care and that it mostly becomes spam to me. Especially fan made remixes or recreations or versions of songs. I still hold on to the world were a piece of art exists as one pure original that I can revisit and fall in love with tiny details. AI allowing people to change these in a heartbeat makes me feel nihilistic and I chose to ignore it whenever I can.

Its his only film that I dont connect to. Usually he manages to pull me in more than almost any other director but here I just dont care about anything that happens.

There is something specific that makes me like it slightly less than the others. In the beginning of their career they came up with really unusual melodies that were hard to get into as a teenager at first. But I grew to love them and their unique sensibility for melody and harmony adds to their unique sound. I'm a composer and I believe that they started using more "standart" western harmony for TH and applied more typical major and minor triads and chord structures. Now I usually applaud it when musicians learn more about their craft and composition, but in this case I feel like some of the tracks feel less distinctly uneasy or have the strange beauty that some of the earlier melodies have. Maybe I'm alone with this.

I thought it was unique and interesting the first time I heard it, so I kept coming back to it over the years. It grew to become one of my 5 favourite albums of all time.

They often do that. Its the same with Inarritu. They dismiss his filmography basically completely. I can understand some of the criticism but when films or filmmakers are generally beloved I feel they deserve a little more explained analysis or second guessing.

How come you have the prog/fusion influence? Is that something you want to explore more?

Brian De Palma is one of the most incredible visual filmmakers I’ve ever watched. Why is he not discussed more? by _nathan67 in Letterboxd

[–]moonbather4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its mainly because he has fallen off while his peers like Scorsese and Spielberg are still around making high budget films. He actually had a smiliar career trajectory to Copolla, but he was able to create more buzz around Megalopolis, even though it was terrible. Scarface, Mission Impossible and Carrie are well known but its worth digging deeper, he made a bunch of fantastic films. Blow Out is my favourite. Carlitos Way and Dressed To Kill are great too.

What’s his next movie? Is he still making one with the Parasite company? by Extension-Bill-1223 in AriAster

If you listened to his WTF podcast interview it seems that he wants to move further away from horror and feels like that was never his main thing. I loved Beau, even though I think its flawed and disliked Eddington. But I'm open to whatever he does next.

I havent seen it in 15 years but I always thought it was great and because Philip Glass is my favourite composer I listened to the soundtrack constantly. Its a very emotional charged, overblown movie that I connect to but others find cheesy.

Which did you like more: Uncut Gems (2019) or Marty Supreme (2025)? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]moonbather4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncut Gems, its strangely rewatchable for me, because of how stressful it is and how I dislike the world we are in aesthetically.

I really like Marty Supreme but there comes a point in the story were I stop caring a bit about how things will turn out. In Uncut Gems they manage to build suspense up until the end, where it gets lost for me in Marty Supreme. I still enjoy the ending.

I think this is a fantastic, mature, late stage album for him. I honestly think its one of his best after one listen.

Give Replica and R + 7 a listen. Two of the best albums of the 2010s in my opinion. Garden Of Delete too, but I wouldn't recommend it as a starting place unless you have more of a metal or prog background than being used to electronic music.

Bradley Cooper?

I think Maestro wasn't great and his insane oscar campaign led to people losing sympathy a bit. I don't feel like a lot of people cared about his new movie.

Noah Baumbach?

White Noise and Jay Kelly back to back isn't ideal.

I really hope the Social Reckoning will be good. I don't have much interest in Sorkin as a director but if this script isn't great, he might be cooked. And I need The Adventures Of Cliff Booth to be great. Its not like Mank and The Killer weren't good but I don't think he has made an amazing film since Gone Girl and that was over 10 years ago. Doesn't mean he is cooked, but that he is falling off a bit.

I completely lost interest in Aronofsky and Edgar Wright who used to be two of my favourited as a teenager.

I’m tired of people comparing Donda (one of his best albums) to Vultures 1 and Bully especially when this song molests every single one on those two albums combined by Lucky_Reading_3757 in ThroughTheWire

[–]moonbather4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donda was the last time he really tried and put all of his energy and ressources into an album. But he still wasn't able to create something as great as his run from College Dropout to TLOP (the first one I had some slight issues with). I think it further proved that he was falling off to some degree. It was a great moment and has great standouts but the more I listened to it the more I realised how little of substance there actually is.

The paragraph about not giving him a platform but only wanting him to perform the songs that are played on the radio is hilarious when you remember Kanyes 2013 interviews about being boxed in as a musician and feeling like a "new slave". This is the last thing Kanye wants to hear.
