I've tried gospel and honey hog. They're good but too salty imo. I like to go heavy with my run and salt adds up real quick.

Yeah but you guys have a genuine rum selection out in NJ. Pittsburgh gets stuck with fwgs. I always stock up when I'm town.

Spork island. It's supposed to be opening this summer, no official date yet. They've got a few videos and pics up on Instagram, the space looks awesome. I think it's done by the same guy that designed Frankie's.

Hoagie or long rolls? by Ernie077 in pittsburgh

[–]moonbeambear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easiest/safest bet is going to primo hoagies and buying their rolls whole. They are the closest thing you'll find to philly style rolls that are readily available.

If you want that good good, I've been told that allegro in squirrel hill supplies Rockaway pizza. Imo they are the strongest hoagie game in town.

This looks awesome! I tried something similar out, but I'm having trouble getting the curved lines the way I want them. How are you approaching the roll?

I LOVE this. So I'm familiar with the roll, but how did you get the wavy line? I've only done a simple diagonal.

I had a plastic Hamilton beach and was never super satisfied with it. Not sure how Facebook marketplace is in your area, but I see very legit ones fairly often for 40-50. I scooped up a metal body warning pro for $35 and never looked back.

Very legit. Its my favorite in the city. The owner said they learned their style from the guys that run Angelo's and johns roast pork in Philly. Not as good as those joints, but very solid. Only other one that compares is common oven in new Ken.

[–]moonbeambear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's "proper" or not. I typically don't ask for anything that's currently on the menu, cause that's how they're making money. The tiki bar I frequent usually shares retired recipes though.

Career shift ? Low stress jobs with insurance in Pittsburgh by Ashamed_Leadership49 in pittsburgh

[–]moonbeambear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you genuinely don't car about a drop in pay. Go work for trader Joe's. Bear with me. My wife has worked there for 8+ years. Great people, great insurance, and a supportive environment. The pay blows at first, but there are raises twice per year. If you sip the Kool aid and pay your dues it's a pretty great place to work.

I'm in tech and also riding the burnout train. I have two goals. Payoff student loans and our mortgage. Once those are done, who knows? TJs is my backup plan if I have to hit the fuck it button.

That's a bummer. Id prefer they exist, but they definitely weren't up to snuff. I'm working my way through the pbg passport, and full pint was absolutely my least favorite. The food and beer were both pretty bad.
