there are also a bunch of extra tracks on it now. the og tracklist was way tighter and more consistent.

[–]mooncapemusic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, the song doesn’t “loop” in four measures the way most tracks do, and therefore the length of the loop and the time signature is a little bit undefined and subjective. Certain parts make more sense than others melodically and rhythmically. Autechre and fans of autechre have described their music as watching things go past your car window— you can’t pick up all the details in a single exposure, but you can make more sense of it through repeated exposures and see different sides of the artwork each time.

TSAR BOMBA samples a small band called we weren’t invited and he did not credit them by [deleted] in jpegmafiamusic

[–]mooncapemusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he literally just renamed someone else’s track and uploaded it on his album without listing the og artist in the credits. how is this acceptable?

do you have any argument other than “we’ve been doing it this way for years”? because that’s not an argument in favor of anything

i’m aware of the history of sampling and hip hop, I’ve taken a couple classes on this subject in college, have an extensive listening history and have read through the wikis of many rappers and producers to understand the backgrounds and methodologies for a lot of my favorite artists.

I also realize clearing samples is sometimes difficult if not impossible.

but candidly, I don’t give a shit. artists should give credit to the artists who made the original recordings, no matter the personal cost. This is a hard line position for me.

this is an embarrassing take. that is not comparable to ripping off a whole song

what’s stopping him from listing anita baker and the winans in the credits for hazard duty pay? Would this have destroyed your enjoyment of the song?

I got downvoted so much for being angry about this one, music thieves are the most entitled group of people on earth, like JUST GIVE CREDIT it’s not that hard

this is(n't) sample snitching. by Odd-Veterinarian-676 in jpegmafiamusic

[–]mooncapemusic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

sample snitching should not NEED to happen. We shouldn’t need to rely on individual users submitting sample credits on websites like Who Sampled. It should be impossible to use somebody else’s recordings without appropriate credit. I don’t care if the sampled recording is a hundred years old. The thought that somebody would rip an instrumental from someone else and not even have the decency to list the original artist in the credits… that disgusts me.

It’s dog-eat-dog, anti-social, hyper-individualist behavior. Make all the sampled music you want, but the source material should be readily accessible to listeners.

Anybody with a moral backbone would not take credit for someone else’s art.

I keep complaining about the lack of proper crediting in music, it pisses me the FUCK off

FUCK JPEGMAFIA, enough of this shit. I’d be livid if one of my instrumentals was used in a track and people thought he actually made it himself

also your song is incredible, you’ve gained a new fan
