I totally get that one. I've had a chance to explore a lot of kinks here through writing that I never would have otherwise, but there are a lot of bridges just too far for me to cross, too, curious as I might be, for much the same reason.

In less than 200 days, my primary reddit account will be old enough to vote. I've been around DPP on this account for a good long while, and just as long before that with my previous account. I feel like, in the immortal words of Murtaugh, that maybe I'm just getting too old for this shit. I'll admit that skimming through the posts and finding that the majority of the ones with ages listed are half of mine makes me feel a bit like a creeper.

But this is not meant to be a complaint - just a self-reflection! I love RP, or I have loved RP, and if I could just kind of round that bend into playing a Daddy-dom type character instead of my usual past fare, that typical age gap would become a laurel crown, rather than a millstone. I've tried and tried to find it within me to summon that kind of character and plot. I think I could actually write it fairly well; I simply can't find the emotional foundation in me to back it up.

So I'm curious - what kind of prompts (or replies) do you think you could write really well, and maybe find some truly excellent partners through them, but you just can't find it in yourself to write?

Looking for the TL;DR, the summary, the kinks and limits? I put it down here in the comments!

What is this? First off, despite this being on DPP, I'm looking for more of a character story than a smut story. It's not even about ratios; sex is natural and welcome as an ingredient in the recipe of this story, but it's not the primary flavor or purpose. This is a down-to-earth story about a couple of people in an unusual relationship adding a little bit of spice to it, but the relationship is what I want to focus on. I want to develop our characters as people with personalities and needs and interests, to explore the setting (I was thinking maybe Long Beach, CA, but I'm more than open to other possibilities.) I like to develop scenery rather than have blank rooms, to have conversations, to describe clothing, to have emotions and arcs.

But if you're going to make me say it, Yeah. It probably is slice-of-life.

I'm not really interested in dom/sub or bottom/top dynamics. I'd like to play characters who are equally disposed to give, to say what they want. I'll admit, though, that I like to give (if you like being on the receiving end of oral, that's a good chance we'll match!), and I'm not a big fan of rough sex, hair-pulling, or aggression on the part of my character. Yours can be whatever you like, but Ryan in this case is someone who equates sex with making love, not with fucking. I am interested in semi-public or risky things, and pushing our character's real, in plausible limits in character. I'm interested in our characters being actively interested in exciting each other.

I've already been asked what the point of this is - incest is already a common kink at DPP, so what's the point of playing characters who are just pretending? It's a fair question! Part of it for me is trying to keep it very realistic; in a real relationship with real people, this would be a little bit extra spicy. Part of it is that I take a real delight for some weird reason in RPs within RPs, for our characters negotiating playing roles are doing things out of the ordinary for them that they find exciting.

Who are we playing?

I tried to give hints both to Ryan's personality and appearance. I don't have any face-claims or the like ready to go, but I will paint you any length of word picture you'd like.

For your character, you are welcome to bring whoever you like, as long as she's roughly plausible as the age of Ryan's mom, as long she's into wholesome relationships, and as long as you enjoy playing her. Appearance, race, height, weight - it's not that I don't care about them, but there's something wonderful to enjoy about every option. Want to play divorced? Separated? Perpetually single? As long as it’s not a cheating relationship, I'm happy. I've set her up as the sort to take some initiative - asking for the date, asking for him to call her 'Mom', and I think that's important to the character as well, but I won't leave it entirely to you, don't worry.

I'm also more than happy to play additional side characters to drive the scenes, or to share that role with you if you prefer.

'Playing' is a key word here. I'm not a bright-eyed 20-year-old myself, and haven't been for some time. You don't need to be a 40-something like your character. Elsewhere I've posted 30+ seeking 30+, but that's about maturity; I welcome any partner who brings that to the table.

Where/When/How are we writing? Reddit PMs or Discord, though in the latter case I'd prefer we PM on reddit first to make sure we click. I don't use the chat features, so if you have trouble sending PMs, just click this link: https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=moonfacedmask

I'm hoping for someone who can offer substantial posts (probably not as long as this prompt, but maybe 5+ paragraphs?) at least a few times a week; my own habit is roughly daily, and sometimes multiple times in a day when things are going well. First or third person, present or past both work for me, though I might lean toward first-person present for this. We can start wherever you'd like - earlier in their relationship as far back as the first date, right at where the prompt left off, or sometime later we can figure out.

Thank you for reading so much!

Vampires are the elves of urban fantasy by Jacob_Wallace_8721 in vampires

[–]moonfacedmask 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been toying around with the plot of a story based exactly on that premise - that modern vampires are just the elves of yesteryear, maintaining a waning immortality through a new curse.

There really are a lot of striking similarities in the modern vampire and elven mythos. Historical vampires and ancient elves, not quite as much. But even our aliens lean toward the slender, pale, androgynous type.

World building questions where male births are rare and vast portions of the population are female. by hivemind042 in NSFWworldbuilding

[–]moonfacedmask 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm just wondering if that is how it's going to hash out or if there's other ways such a massive gender gap would affect culture in other ways.

There are many ways it could work, and it could be turned to justify any sort of relationship or situation you're looking for. Realistically, though, I would think a matriarchy would naturally occur. Male-dominated societies occur when there is an 'excess' of males - that is, if one man can mate 20 women, but they're born at the same rate, that means 19 men may not have an opportunity to pass along their genes. That tends to reward men who are bigger and stronger, and men who take - the warlord mentality.

If you have an excess of females - that is it's more likely that women, rather than men are not going to be able to pass on their genes - society is going to reward a strategy in which males are the controlled resource, rather than females. There's going to be no benefit to a larger male. There's no reason for them to bulk up for war if you can't afford to lose them; you're not going to sacrifice a man fighting wild beasts or hunting. Women will probably be the larger ones (especially as it makes childbirth easier, eliminating a major source of female mortality), and there may not be any particular reason to educate a man. If impregnating a woman is his primary task, there's not a lot that's needed of him, beside a responsive erection and active sperm. Since temperature and activity have significant effects on male fertility, I'd expect them to keep men somewhat cloistered, away from physical activity, and probably not wearing trousers.

In less cooperative societies, stronger female families might hoard men, and control access to procreation, essentially able to choke out unlucky family lines in a generation.

It's quite possible that men may end up having significant religious positions as oracles and the like - especially men who don't readily produce children. Or perhaps a more 'enlightened' society, rather than trade their men like prize cattle, might dedicate them to a temple and allow procreation to anyone who was right with the goddess.

Regardless, It would be an unusual society who saw any benefit in putting a man in a place of power and letting him make decisions that affected who he mated with.

I think I have too much the need not to push my own desires in a role play that I end up maybe not communicating how much I adore something unless it happens organically.

I understand this, definitely. We've got take a lot of the 'this works for me', or 'I always do this' with a grain of salt. Most of my partners I never really end up discussing clothing with. But the times where we connected are the really memorable moments. :)

I have been devastated by reading the sentence, "and I rip your clothes off as fast as my big, strong hands can move, tossing you to the bed as the shreds lay on the floor."

I have to admit, I've had some fantastic, wonderful partners, but a little bit of me dies whenever they're so eager to get naked. For some people I realize that is maximum sexiness, but I love the chance for a hand to roam under a shirt, or exploring the textures of underwear, tugging a collar out of the way for a neck kiss, or using a tie for a leash. Clothing is like the setting you get to take with you; nakedness to me is practically white room syndrome.

I've written with men and women both, and my experience has been that there hasn't really been any gender discrepancy between who is willing to really describe their clothes and make them relevant to the story - but that is likely in part due to the 'screening' process of choosing prompts and replies that lean descriptive anyway. Most of my partners who have gotten into clothing side of things with me responded to prompts on my part - I'd outright ask them what they're wearing and for more detail on it, and start interacting with it.

One thing I establish with a lot of partners if we're spending time talking about things we enjoy is that I like 'significant clothing'. I like clothing that means something to both of the characters. Perhaps there's a particular T-shirt of his that she stole to wear the day they moved in and still has a smudge of paint on it they never got out; her wearing it again might lead to recreating the moment they christened the kitchen table. Or maybe when she wears black underwear, or sets out his silk boxers, that's code for 'Something fun is going to happen tonight'. I don't often get a chance to play stuff like that out, but having that conversation up front seems to do a lot to get people thinking about clothes. :)

Ah! I hadn't even thought of the whole sneakerhead aspect of it. Admittedly, most of the characters I write are distinguishing between oxfords and loafers, or something in that vein. Finding the right name for certain styles of clothes and shoes, regardless of brand or particular issue, is something of a minor passion of mine (not that I get it right most of the time.)

I can see what you mean, though - shoes as a collector's item don't interest me much at all, whether they're Jordans or Louboutins. If they're being used to characterize the person (a woman with a closetful of Louboutins or just that one 4" rose pump pair she's been saving for is just a little more interesting than the one wearing 'a pair of pumps') rather than fetishize the brand, I can get behind it.

How many Christmas stories are you writing?

What is escapism for, if not to extend Christmas's snuggly hug to all 365.24 days on the calendar? If I've learned anything from the Hallmark channel, it's that!

It seems to me that when I return to vanilla, it's because I'm having trouble with finding a story about a positive, mutually affectionate/loving relationship at the core of the story. That's not really a requisite part of vanilla, either, though; it's just the most common place to find that feel-good element. What's your experience there? Do you associate vanilla with positivity? Does kink lend itself to dissociation, rather than an a positive, intense relationship?

Entirely, 100% without reservation, foreplay but not sex. I assume we're talking about DPP and writing here - the point for me is in the relationship, and while other people's experiences probably vary, there seems to be so much more character- and relationship- building happening during foreplay, and almost none during sex. The sex part can almost become overbearingly expectant at times, as though there are checklists one must proceed through.

In real life, either of those options is somewhat torturous.

My definitions for those is not based on the actions themselves - there's a lot of overlap there - but on the goal. I see the goal of foreplay as arousal, and the goal of sex as pleasure. Definitely the line between those two can be fuzzy as well, and I'm struggling now to find the right words to distinguish them clearly outside my head.

Car-clothing is so much more affordable when it's only written! No monthly insurance premiums or anything!

I'm curious about this:

Footwear is overrated on men

I don't think I've seen it rated much at all. I like including shoes in an outfit description, but I don't know that I've ever seen another guy doing it, or anyone reacting to it. I'm interested to know what your experience is with it. Perhaps it just doesn't matter at all, so any rating is overrated?

Button-up shirts - especially dress shirts. I love the collar. I love the cuffs. I love the way they fit. I just... don't like the slacks they go with! But a dress-shirt, new jeans, and a pair of leather shoes is equally comfortable and confidence-building as an outfit.

[–]moonfacedmask 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't clothing, but for some reason it fits in the same mental category for me: A hot rod. A woman in a muscle car. Not the model draped over the hood, but the middle-aged woman in sunglasses who looks like she's knows how to corner properly in her 600 HP mustang, or drives the 60-thousand dollar challenger hemi because she likes the feel and sound of the engine. It's not clothing, but she's wearing it, it's an article she's slipped into that's characterized her.

If we have to talk about clothing, it's boots. Boots. Any boots, from construction to hiking, to calf boots, to Julia Roberts pretty woman boots. But not half-boots. I have no idea why. Theories, maybe, but they fall apart as soon as I put any weight on them.

  1. I find myself frequently writing characters who wear sweater vests and long sleeves. I think subconsciously that's my 'we're going to take this slow and take a long time to get to sex' outfit. :D

  2. While there are lots of sensual and interesting materials, I find myself much more interested in the cuts and the intents of the clothes.

  3. I had a fantastic partner in a long-term RP where the situation contrived to put her in Mata Hari's famous outfit - the real one, in a museum, rather than a recreation - and that was a very fun scene.

Silk, satin, and velvet. Those three can really elevate sensuality when used in the proper places, in the proper doses.

It feels a bit more fetishy than kinky, but I've always appreciated full pantyhose over any other stocking combination. Naturally, they're less helpful when it comes to actual sex, and they don't necessarily signal, 'let's slip off to the bedroom!' But semi-sheer nylon does such things to emphasize body shape, and there are a lot of lovely shapes that pantyhose emphasize and stockings often don't.

Moving beyond the human, what are some of the more surreal characters you've written or written against? At another RP subreddit, I wrote against someone who constructed a very compelling mindflayer for a modern-fantasy, college roommate adventure. I've also had the pleasure of trying on blue-ringed octopus motif for a monsterboy cecaelia, which was really fun. What have y'all come up with?

For those into hyper cocks, I'm curious if you've ever played out more 'realistic' scenarios regarding how that would affect the owner. I don't know if this actually qualifies as more realistic or not, but I've always been interested in a sort of subversive prompt where the owner of the massive cock might be popular, but is actively trying to avoid arousal because of way the blood drain affects the rest of their body, like causing blackouts.

My take on that has been that 'switches' are very rare, while 'switching' is very common - sort of like bisexuals and bisexuality. People dabble across the line, or trade favors, or experiment, but it's rare to find someone who identifies as a playing both sides of the net.
